As militants with the Islamic State launched artillery rounds at Kurdish forces in northern Iraq, the U.S. military on Friday launched airstrikes using fighter jets on the USS George H. W. Bush, Pentagon officials said.
It was just the latest involvement in combat for the Bush, which was commissioned in 2009. It was used extensively in 2011 to support combat operations in Afghanistan, and left Norfolk, Va., in February on its second deployment. It arrived in the Middle East in March, and entered the Persian Gulf in June, as the Islamic State took control of vast regions of northern and western Iraq.
A Navy official told Checkpoint that the two planes involved in Friday’s airstrikes were F/A-18F Super Hornets with Carrier Air Wing 8, of Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia. The one squadron flying the “F” version of the Super Hornet on the Bush is the “Black Lions” of Navy Strike Fighter Squadron 213, also of Oceana.

The Washington Post proves, once again, that killing people with Republican bombs is bad while killing people with Democrat bombs is good.
Sort of a slap in the face to the one who deserves it the most, if you catch my drift.

The locations of ships are actually public knowledge. With satellite imagery, kind of hard to hide from our equal enemies.
There is one website with paid membership which gives tons of info along with offering some free articles. Forget what it’s called though.

I agree. I think naming the carriers after former Presidents is a bad idea. Living ones is even worse. The names of historic battles or historic ships forced some people to learn a little of our history and sacrifice. There can be plenty of buildings to name after Presidents and SecDef. Do we really want a Clinton or Obama? No..
