Canada and the US are very similar countries in a lot of ways. Wage rates and societal norms are very close in both countries. They are a natural for free trade where each country can rely on comparative advantage for the benefit of both.
Mexico is a different kettle of fish. It's greatest "resource" is cheap labor. When North American companies locate there to take advantage of this it dislocates the labor market in the US and Canada. I do not understand the advantage of an FTA with a failing, low wage, third world country.
Maybe they’d consider trading for a few million Mexicans?

I lean towards the idea of Americans protesting at a border crossing and blocking all traffic from crossing into Mexico. It doesn’t matter which one, just shut it down. Close the crossing for two or three days. The commercial loss will be what they comprehend, loss of income.
Amen to that. But I would make it hurt for longer. They need to never be tempted to forget.
Another option would be to stop US banks from transferring funds to Mexico.
Where are the conservatives in the HOR? These are the issues they should have a sense about without waiting to see which way the wind blows.

To have your question answered, just look at part of the text you wrote: low wage. That advantage falls to the corporations, not the nations or their citizens.
Obama will never lift a finger to get this marine home. There are some Congressmen trying to exert pressure to get him out thank God.

As far as Mexico, taking a gun into there is almost as bad as murder.

You know why Obama won’t lift a finger to get him back? Not because he is a Marine but because he is a 2nd amendment, gun toting Marine. I would bet anything that if he had weed in his car instead of guns, Obama would have been all over it and he would have been released within six hours.
The man made a wrong turn. I have seen the interchange.
Turning there intuiitively looks like you will be headed away from the border...but then it circles back and there is no chance or place to turn around, with coincrete barriers all along, before reaching the boarder station.
He reached it and informed them that he was there by mistake and did not want to enter Mexico.
They looked in his car and arrested him.
Mexico is supposed to be our ally and they receive beaucoup denoero from Uncle Sugar.
So all of your smoke blowing is easily trumped...and should be trumped by anyone willing to stand beside a lyoal American.
We simply tell Mexico either to allow him to leave as a result of this very clear mistake, or the US will put serious hurt on them...ala suspending all NAFTA traffic immediately.
The man is a decorated combat veteran. he is the type of people we should all stand beside.
