The man who shot the cellphone video showing a police officer using an apparent chokehold on a Staten Island man who later died, was arrested Saturday night on charges that he was carrying a stolen loaded handgun, a law-enforcement official said.

Ramsey Orta, 22 years old, was charged by the New York Police Department with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a weapon with a previous conviction, police said.

Too bad they’ve given us such reason to fear and deplore their actions huh?!

Police officers are members of society and reflect that society. Our society is a Godless, hedonistic cesspool headed for totalitarian rule. That’s what happens when we want to be governed by man rather than God.

I’ve seen a lot of deplorable actions from the lowest of the low to ‘fine, upstanding people,’ including police officers.

Do I believe the police planted a gun on this guy? Not for a minute. Because some police officers have committed some deplorable actions do I jump on the crazy train? No sale.

You mention that some folks here are gullible. That could well be true. But in this instant I see myself as suspicious, not gullible.

Consider this analogy. Let’s suppose a small businessman goes on Fox News, and exposes IRS corruption. And this greatly embarrasses the IRS, even though they deny the corruption.

And then just a week later the small businessman is the subject of an IRS audit, where irregularities are found. The IRS says the timing of the audit is just a coincidence.

It might be a bit unfair to the IRS, but be honest. Wouldn’t you be a bit suspicious, especially given past IRS excesses?

I hope you see the point I’m trying to make here.

The United States military, according to the media, have committed some pretty fearful and deplorable acts, are you condemning them as well? And they have video.

What confounds me is what I believed to be reasonably intelligent people on this website falling for media bias and lies. I guess when the media bias and lies suit their purpose it’s acceptable. Or maybe some folks are just that gullible.

I've forgotten more about media bias than you'll ever know.

But I haven't forgotten this gem:

“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.”

I don't object to officers, per se. I object to SWARMS of officers, which we got now.

For example, the local pretend sojers got to roll their MRAP and a couple of Bearcats last week. It wasn't necessary.

I understand what you say, although I don’t necessarily agree with it all. I believe that police might have planted a gun on this gun. Not for sure. It’s sure not a crazy train to believe it though, since it’s happened wayyyyy too often. Not just planting stuff on people, but shootings and murders and abuse, rape, shooting dogs....lots of different things.

That’s what I’m wondering. ... A crazy coincidence. ... If that’s what it is.

One more thing. Actually, I wouldn't bet on a plant either. But here's one thing I would bet on: the cops knew who Orta was, and his connect to the video. And so they were following him around, hoping to get in a little payback.

Am I sure? Not at all. But that's the way I'd bet.

I’m sorry, I’m not making the correlation. I watched the Garner video, I read the Medical Examiners report. Garner did not die from being choked. His trachea was not damaged. I watched the ‘choke’ and I know how to apply the choke. The cop only had what could be considered a choke for about 2 seconds and Garner was talking and conscious when he did. You can not talk when you are being choked. I have been choked myself countless times.

The video is going to vindicate that cop.

Not more than a week later the media ran another story about another cop ‘choking’ a woman. Watching that video they lied again.

Now we are lead to believe the cops planted a gun on the guy that shot the video so they could arrest him and negate the video evidence?

Why would I want to dismiss a video that was going to show my innocence? And his arrest isn’t going to make any difference in the case anyway.

Question: Did the cops hand the gun off to the girlfriend too? You know, like a BOGO deal? Get both of them with one gun? Bust One Get One?

unreal

Yes, and how convenient that the NYC cops did not seek his arrest until AFTER he videoed one of their “finest” committing an, at best, questionable, and at worst, illegal act. Funny the timing of that circumstance.

His past record notwithstanding, his present circumstance neither diminishes nor abrogates the act he captured and publicly exposed.

The cops are becoming increasingly militarized, increasingly thuggish, and increasingly possessed by an elitist attitude that paints all situations as “us against them.” While I have no sympathy for the criminal element of our society, I neither appreciate nor trust that which presently passes for police officers. Most of whom I have discovered are unapologetic jerks, and, in some cases, every bit as criminal in their actions as those whom they are charged to “protect” us from.

How often is wayyyyyy to often? I for one would be interested in seeing some proof and statistics of what you are saying. I would also like to see the statistics on how many police officers abuse their office compared to the rest of professions and society.

Are police officers held to a higher standard? Absolutely, and they should be. I also point out instances in which police officers are rightly charged and go to jail.

This ain’t one of ‘em. And in a city the size of NY they don’t have time to play around ‘getting even’ with a guy that filmed a video. Especially one that very well may exonerate the officer in question.

Nope. Not condemning them. It’s their job to slash and burn. It’s NOT the police’s job to do that. Completely different.

I actually think we are discussing slightly different things. My sole point here is that the timing of Orta's arrest is very, very odd. Either one of two things is true here.

Perhaps it really was just a fantastic coincidence that Orta was arrested so soon after he shot that video. Or perhaps certain cops were following Orta, hoping to get in a little payback.

If it's the first possibility, the NYPD is being unfairly smeared. If it's the second, the NYPD is morally corrupt. It is up to each person to reach his own conclusions.

I suppose one could say the same thing about the people of this country, increasingly thuggish, increasingly elitist, unapologetic jerks. I mean, if we want to paint everybody with a broad brush.

Cops don’t do anything good now-a-days. Not one. I’m sure of it because I haven’t seen it in the media.

I’m guessing that Mr. Orta, who has numerous arrests in 5 years, including 2 felonies in the last year, was probably up to his old tricks and got caught. Was the ‘alleged’ drug house they dragged him into a plant also?

I bet the boys at the NYPD TV unit assisted in the set-up.

You think they are possibly being smeared? How about the media saying the choke hold killed the man? And then within a week another choke hold report by the media?

Nah, no smearing here.
