The Army has selected a new camouflage pattern to begin fielding next year, an unidentified senior Army spokesperson announced in a statement late Thursday.
The Army has confirmed through testing that the pattern would offer exceptional concealment, which directly enhances force protection and survivability for Soldiers, according to the statement from the Army.
The pattern will be used in all combatant commands, including Afghanistan, the Army said. Uniforms and equipment with the existing pattern wont be discarded, but replaced only as they wear out.
The pattern was developed by the Army under the name Scorpion W2 to replace the much-maligned Universal Camouflage Pattern, a pixelated combination of green, gray and tan that some soldiers said provided bad concealment in most places.

Ground troops no matter from what branch would make sense to all be using the same garb, but there are differences based on specialty. I mean who cares if you are wearing camo while flying an aircraft, and if you are coming in amphibiously you might want yet a different camo than on land, etc.
Aw. c'mon, the swabbies really NEED those blue "camo" utilities. For what, exactly, I do not think anyone has ever offered an opinion.
Same for the Air Force. Kind of hard to hide on the flight line...............
A dirty little secret about gay is that the gayer they look the less they like it. Gay really swoons over straight, though they will never say that in public.
In World War II, which we won incidently, servicemen wore the drab solid tones of their respective branches. They didn’t try to look like a tree or a rock.
Blue camo is an oxymoron.
Ha! Your comment reminded me of this 70s movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076145/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_96 In that movie either Ben Gazzara or Paul Winfield says something to the effect of “I love tiger stripes” as they are putting on their fatigues. I haven’t seen that movie in almost 30 years.
The uniform provides a distinctly ‘feminine’ silhouette. We expect that this may reduce the incidence of homosex propositions and assaults under field, low-light conditions.
Good choice!
Against an oceanscape, it might work.
Of course with today’s electronic vision enhancement systems, probably any troop in any kind of camo can be made to look like a glaring neon sign (e.g. in the infrared). They might as well almost wear civvies.
You beat me to it -— I was going to ask if these would be made in China, too.
The Velcro is kinda gay.
Multicam without the vertical elements.
.
retro camo?
I wanted to buy the best cammo I could find, but I could never find it.
Faded in the sun a few weeks it was fine when you were lying down or crawling. Crouching or standing up, the dark and light stripes were the exact opposite of the surrounding brush and shadows
You’re right. It looks like “mini Woodland” or some such.
My father and uncle are retired sailors. We all thought the blue camos were silly. I mean if you fall over board how they going to find you?
Tiger stripes work fine for tigers.
