Why Democrats Are Ditching the 'War on Women' Rhetoric
National Journal ^ | 08/01/2014 | EMILY SCHULTHEIS

Democrats want to talk about "personhood" and reproductive freedom. They want to tell voters about a stubborn pay gap and women hurt by a low minimum wage. But what they don't want to do is talk about a "war on women."

Indeed, the party that so effectively deployed the "war" rhetoric to help defeat Mitt Romney in 2012 has now sworn off its catch phrase, dropping it almost completely from a campaign strategy that, in so many other ways, is still very much about women's issues.

"[Saying] 'Republicans are waging a war on women' actually doesn't test very well," said Democratic pollster Celinda Lake. "Women find it divisive, political—they don't like it."

So Democratic candidates, who need to expand their margins among female voters and bring unmarried women to the polls in November, are shifting the language they use to pitch these issues to voters. Instead of the "war," Lake said, testing has shown more effective language casts Republicans' positions as "too extreme" or the GOP as "out of touch with women's lives."

The phrase "war on women" arose fairly early in 2012, around the time radio commentator Rush Limbaugh referred to activist Sandra Fluke as a "slut." The party used the notion of a Republican "war on women" to help bring down Romney's presidential bid and appeal to women in swing states who ultimately helped President Obama secure a second term.

Those same issues remain potent in many of the most competitive Senate races across the electoral map: Colorado, Kentucky, New Hampshire, and North Carolina, to name a few, are places where women's issues have already played prominently.

"I think that phrase was a 2012 thing—but the issues are very much alive and well, especially here," said Chris Harris, communications director for Sen. Mark Udall of Colorado.

I think it’s because most Americans have figured out that it’s the commie lib ‘RATS who are really engaged in a “War on Woman.”

Bull Cheese. Wishful thinking? There are many reasons why Romney lost. But this so called war on women was not even a minimum factor.

The "War on WOMEN" doesn't make much sense when your political party supports ISLAM
who believes in slavery and "SUBMISSION" , and
who believes that women are property, and have no civil rights !!

Udall is doing that here. He is attacking Gardner on "personhood," which he at one time supported but no longer does.

I've seen other Democrats here who ran on the abortion issue when they got in trouble, but it just doesn't seem to be a winner. Not when the economy still stinks and Obamacare is playing havoc.

I like to think it's because of my image...

but I could be wrong... :) :)

The War On Women

If there ever was a war on women, Hillary was a Lieutenant and Bill was the General.

The only consideration is whether a lie is accepted by the public; the concept of actually telling the truth doesn't even enter the discussion.
Still, it's beyond comprehension that this slogan ever got any traction at all. How could any voter miss the fact that the Democrat agenda is inimical to women and all living things?

The party used the notion of a Republican "war on women" to help bring down Romney's presidential bid and appeal to women in swing states who ultimately helped President Obama secure a second term.

Except that Obama's percentage of the female vote shrank in 2012, and Romney won easily with Independents.

Imagine what Romney could have done if he had professionals running his GOTV efforts, instead of the ORCA fiasco.

I think the Demonrat voter fraud factor played a significant (if not decisive) role in Romney’s defeat. Romney was drawing bigger crowds than the Obamanation in key states, yet lost.

Nothing could fix Romney, switching back to his pro-abortion position after winning the nomination and swearing endlessly that he had switched to pro-life in 2005, and running pro-choice ads in Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin, among other things, like him reminding voters that he still maintained his 20 year support for gay Scout leaders, was just rubbing it in the face of republican voters.

I guess Romney lost legitimately but I still remember the precincts where Obama got over 100% of the votes.

Fraud with democrat voting is as old as the mid 1800s immigration, as the corrupt and liberal immigrants took over the big cities, but it didn’t decide the 2012 election.

Romney is a decades old disaster in GOP politics, with a single under 50% election victory, for an office that he gave up hope for reelection in, and left with 34% approval.

Remember that in 2008 he lost to two burnouts with no money or organizations, and Romney started that primary as the 800 pound gorilla, and pumped in 50 million dollars of his own money, in fact for 2012, remember how all those low caliber challengers kept getting their day in the sun as republican primary voters were doing everything they could to avoid Mitt.
