Sympathy ploy, most Americans (wrongly) would be against it.
It's like close-up magic. Don't watch the hand that the illusionist wants you to look at. 'Your' card is not there.
The “why” of it is simple:
To make him a sympathetic victim so his base will get riled up to protect him - by sending money to get more democrats elected in November midterms, obviously.
We’re “racist” if we impeach him... we’re “racist” if we oppose him... we’re “racist” if we don’t do, pass, agree with, support, everything he says/wants/throws tantrums over.
They’ve got that victim/race card down to an artform.
Oh, it’s simple really.
“They’re going to impeach the first black president if they take over Congress! Send money! Vote! Often!”
The Current Regime and the (P)MSNBC are stirring this up as what they hope will be a very potent fund-raiser and motivation for the Low-Information Voters to get out there in November. If at all possible, they are attempting to hold the Senate, and possibly make inroads on the House.
(Cue up “Mission Impossible” theme music)
This is even bigger than pushing Grandma over the cliff.

Simple. They’re raising millions of dollars off this, and firing up their base at the same time.
I hope that moron Boehner hasn’t just given them the turnout they need to keep the Senate.
To help the Democrats do well in the election to create the public perception that the Republicans that could be elected are radicalized and that while what Obama and the Democrats have done has been damaging, they’re far better than the extremist alternative. It could unfortunately prove to be at least somewhat effective.
