Putin facing multi-million pound legal action over alleged role in MH17 crash

Vladimir Putin is facing a multi-million-pound legal action for his alleged role in the shooting down of a Malaysia Airlines passenger jet over eastern Ukraine, The Sunday Telegraph can disclose.

British lawyers are preparing a class action against the Russian president through the American courts. Senior Russian military commanders and politicians close to Mr Putin are also likely to become embroiled in the legal claim.

The case would further damage relations between Mr Putin and the West, but politicians would be powerless to prevent it.

Last week, lawyers from McCue & Partners, the London law firm, flew to Ukraine for discussions about how to bring the case and where it should be filed. Victims’ families will be invited to join the action. The case will inevitably highlight the role allegedly played by Russia in stoking conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Why don’t they do through their own courts?

Putin is an evil man, yet how does a plane crash in the Ukraine involving either Ukrainian and/or Russian militaries wind up in the US courts?

If you want an international court of justice, I think there is one in the Hague.

A Russia refusal to defend against the class action could lead to a claim against Russian assets in the US.

They need to sue Malaysian Airlines for fying onver a WAR ZONE where 4 aircraft had beed shot down including one troop carrier at 22,000 feet. If the Russians supplied a SA11 to the Ukranians ( which they did) and it was captured by the East Ukranian after ther duely elected Government was over thrown? How do you sue Russians? I’m lost on the comnnection.

That’s true, and unless they get a few Putinistas on the jury an American civil jury is more likely to realize that ultimately the dictator Putin pulled the trigger when he gave his proxies these types of weapons. The money for the families won’t bring back the dead, but Putin’s looted money should be given to the victims. Russians apparently don’t mind if their president for life steals from them, but why should the victims of putin’s ultra-nationalist violence not be compensated for his idiotic melodrama?

Wonder how much of Putin’s billions are invested worldwide?

Squeeze the war criminal and then squeeze some more.

This is a good question. Some say he is the richest man in the world now. I’m wondering why the press doesn’t pursue this subject more. I know they cannot if they’re in Russia. They’d be killed, like other people in the press who have exposed corruption in Putin’s police state. Still, there are reporters outside of Russia who presumably could get close to figuring out how much he has stolen.

The BBC reported a few days ago that several major airlines, including Lufthansa (one of the most highly respected airlines of today) were flying that very same route.Assuming that's true (and the claim is surely easily verified...or refuted) that takes the airline completely off the hook,IMO.Also,I think Europe has something resembling our FAA.If I'm correct did that body issue anything resembling a warning about flying over that area at 33,000 feet? If not that fact *too* takes the airline off the hook.

This is Vald Putin's savagery.Nobody but him deserves blame.

There will be plenty of Putin fans wanting to blame the victims, but what they have to ask themselves is this. If Putin didn’t start all of this trouble and provide these weapons to his proxy henchmen, if Putin were willing to allow peace and freedom in Ukraine, would these Putinistas on FReerepublic be able to blame the victims. The answer is no because there would be no victims.

Why do the Ukrainian army and its mercenary outfits have AA in the war zone in the first place, to take down kites flown by “terrorist Putinistas?” So I’ll assume they have proof of previous incursions of Russian planes and were set up to take them on, so is it possible that a plane like the airliner could be mistaken for a warplane? I’m still betting on the Ukes having botched this job.

Does this really belong in an American court room? Why not a European court? It wasn’t an American airliner, citizens that died were not Americans, it wasn’t shot out of the sky over America, ok the plane was built here but it was sold over 10 years ago. I don’t get it, and I really don’t want to hear about it on the news day after day like the OJ trial.

Does ANYONE with a bit of common sense REALLY believe Putin or any other ex-KGB Russian is shaking in their boots over a potential lawsuit???

Do lawyers ever read or understand Russian history as well as culture??

Ukraine is a free and independent country; it’s allowed to protect itself under international law even if it’s in defiance of Putin. He does not own Ukraine, but like his hero Stalin he intends to inflict pain and suffering on that country for his own vainglory. It seems you’re a supporter of his, and will no doubt be on the upcoming prayer thread that Putinistas are going to establish for their hero on FreeRepublic.

Russians supplied a SA11 to the Ukranians ( which they did) and it was captured by the East Ukranian after ther duely elected Government was over thrown? How do you sue Russians? I’m lost on the comnnection.

The Russkies never captured a Buk from Ukraine. NATO saw them 2 weeks prior to the shootdown with Buks on the Russian side of the border, conducting training. The Russkies then claimed they captured one (Ukraine denies) and then sent them across the border, along the same route everything coming from Russia drives through. Typically, whenever the Russkies send something over the border, they claim they captured it first, to maintain plausible deniability. But there is no evidence for it except for claims from Russian state controlled media, with no other independent sources.

As for the whole "duely elected government was over thrown." The Interim government all along was the Ukrainian Rada elected in 2012. Only Yanukovych was "overthrown," and this was done by him fleeing the country to a foreign enemy, not by anyone forcing him out. This is like Obama fleeing from Washington DC to Iran. Or Bibi fleeing to Hamas, after turning into a liberal. Yanukovych could have fled anywhere in Ukraine, even to the East, but chose Russia. The Ukrainian SBU says they think it was Russia that forced him to flee to their country.

Why do the Ukrainian army and its mercenary outfits have AA in the war zone in the first place, to take down kites flown by “terrorist Putinistas?”

Because they're in a war with Russia, although not official, with the Russkies occasionally sending helicopters and jets across the border. One Ukrainian Jet, according to Ukrainians, was shot down by a Russkie Jet. These aircraft and Russkie drones also pinpoint Ukrainian positions so the Russkies can shoot missile sat them from Russian soil, which has been going on for awhile now.

So I’ll assume they have proof of previous incursions of Russian planes and were set up to take them on, so is it possible that a plane like the airliner could be mistaken for a warplane?

No, because the airline was flying at 33,000 feet and had flown all across Ukraine before flying over Russkie controlled territory. Furthermore, if the missile was Ukranian from where the Russkies claimed their SAMS were, then that means the missile would have had to travel over Russian controlled territory, all loud and bright, and yet not be noticed.

It is confirmed that the separatists had Buks in the immediate area. That they fled back to Russia. And the separatists were the first to know that something had been shot down, and took credit for it, before they removed their postings and started claiming they never even had Buks.

I’m still betting on the Ukes having botched this job.

Maybe you have an undiagnosed mental problem.
