A veteran is extremely disappointed with the Veterans Administration after he says he was locked inside a community clinic for hours on Monday.
Jeffrey Duck explained that he arrived at the clinic located on South Volusia Ave. at 1 p.m. as a walk in patient. The Marine veteran sat in a consultation room for more than three hours before he realized he was the only one left in the building.
I was apparently left there and forgotten, Duck told WKMG.
Duck began taking video of him walking around the lobby with his cellphone to show that he wasnt trying to steal something. His movements in the building set off the burglar alarm and he called 911.
I apparently got left in a VA facility a medical facility and the alarm has been going off, Duck said to the operator.
The operator then asked if he was inside the building with no employees and he replied yes.
WKMG reported that an apology was issued to Duck on Tuesday from the Veterans Administration stating, We want to apologize to Mr. Duck for his experience yesterday at the Orange City VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic. Duck shared that hes not angry with the VA, but disappointed instead.
Im kind of disappointed; really disappointed, he told WKMG. Theres a lot going on with the VA right now, theyre all over the news. Everybody knows whats going on with them.
A VA administrator told WKMG that we are looking at our closing procedures and will make changes to ensure that this does not happen again.
The veteran hopes that his story will bring attention to the other problems within the medical operations of the VA.
Theres a lot of people with bigger problems than me, Duck told WKMG.
They knock off at 4:00 PM? No wonder vets die waiting for medical services. What lousy “public servants”!
Welcome to the Hotel California...
V A ping.
I was at a doctors office about 3 years ago and after the exam I got dressed (was in the paper outfit...). I came out of the exam room and notice there was no one there. I went out in the hallway and to the elevator and left. If I was locked in I suspect I would have manage to get the lock open and I am not a Marine.
He should be happy he managed to get inside a clinic!
Really hard to get into the VA appointment, and just as hard to get out of the building...unbelievable.
I’ll bet you anything there are homeless people sleeping in some of those ‘empty’ Vet. hospitals. I have generally had good experiences, for which I am thankful, but this experience with Mr. Duck should be a learning moment. What kind of closing routine does their security detail have, any at all? If he could do this, that means overnight patients are not really safe. Someone could lay low until evening, then make their rounds to certain hospital rooms to settle unfinished business. Someone could mess around with IV’s hung to provide nutrition and hydration.
Obviously the Community Clinic was not what it’s quacked up to be for Mr. Duck!
Wait until he sees his bill!
Bahahahaa - good one!
Not only that, but he set off the burglar alarm - smart to call 911 and report what happened; remaining in place rather than leaving. Otherwise we'd be reading about some half-crazed PTSD patient that broke "into" the VA clinic and was shot......along with his service dog for good measure.
A Duck bill? I can only guess where he'll get the down payment. ;-)
They will probably now arrest him for unlawful trespass.
From Aflac of course. :)
