Less than six weeks before Labor Day, hopes for recovery at the North American summer box office have evaporated. The season is expected to finish down 15 to 20 percent compared with 2013, the worst year-over-year decline in three decades, and revenue will struggle to crack $4 billion, which hasn't happened in eight years. As a result, analysts predict that the full year is facing a deficit of 4 to 5 percent.
who wants to see the trash they throw out in the name of a movie????
Liberals run Hollyweird.
Completely.
Why even go?
“Who can afford to go to a bad movie anymore?”
You nailed it right there. The price of a ticket (non-matinee) is really high. Many people, unless they’re hard-core movie buffs, won’t shell out that kind of money. The concession stand will take you to the cleaners too.
The last full-run movie I saw was “Olympus Has Fallen” and that was back in March of 2013.
Who wants to go to a theater without a gun?
Hollywood bimbos will have to find some other way to subsidize their BS lifestyles.
RE: Box-Office Slump: Hollywood Facing Worst Summer in Eight Years
But how is Dinesh D’Souza’s film doing?
I read an interesting economic analysis of this on a business sight that was talking about the fact that Hollywood doesn’t care. The reason is because profits are up. There are no mega-bombs like last year. Also, there are not a large number of (expected) mega-tent polls this year. So while raw numbers are down, they are making MORE money than last year.
And in the end, that is ALL Hollywood is about ... making money.
The kinds of movies they make just don’t interest me.
The last movie I saw was “America” with Dinesh D’Sousa. Before that, last movie I saw was “Courageous” which was more aimed at the faith community.
Schadenfreude.
Also overseas has become as much or even more important for movie profitability. The recent Transformers had huge box office in mainland China.
I can but I choose not to. Hollywood has been on my boycott list for quite a while. their lack of attendance suggests that I’m not the only person who has grown tired of Hollywood’s leftist agenda.
Bad selection. I’m normally a summer block buster junky, rarely in June and July do I go multiple weeks without hitting the theater. I didn’t see a single June release, my only July movies were Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the Monty Python thing (which really doesn’t count). Next one in my pipeline is the James Brown biopic August 1st. Just not an exciting season, even the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is a skip for me (hated the Guardians of the Galaxy comic no way I’m paying to see the movie).
Obama’s fault? or the Christian right boycotting Hollywood Liberals? I’ll take the latter for $100 please, Alex.
How’s that ‘gay every ten minutes’ working out ??!
TV is right behind in the ‘nobody watching’ category.
Maybe this portends diminished kitties and pacs for ‘Rats this fall...
Hollywoods leftist agenda...? You bet and that’s what Obama comes calling for every damn time he shows up and creates nighmare traffic jams looking for money.
Time for the floundering studios to cut overpaid performers at least 50%. It’s high time the Leftist Hollywood crowd gets to feel the pangs of the Obama economy.
My wife just walked in the room and announced we can’t spend anymore money till we get some more checks in. Obama effect? You betcha...
I rent movies either at the library for free or at redbox (long story). The last several times we’ve gone to redbox there was nothing there we wanted to see and we left empty handed.
