If you were back there during the 70s then you had the SAC Wing there with the Titan II ICBMs.

Little Rock was originally a SAC base. With B-47s and B-58 Hustlers assigned. Until they were quickly retired.

314 Field Maintenance Sqdn. Under Tactical Air Command for assigned C-130s. A training squadron. One almost always TDY. And another squadron that tried to perfect LAPES. Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System. Until there were too many accidents and the idea was scrapped.

Also lost two Herks night formation flight training in the Ouachita Mountains under complete ENCOM. In work ups to the failed and aborted Iranian Rescue Mission.

I was an assigned Flight line and Phase Maintenance troop. Lots of time spent in all kinds of weather keeping the airframes airworthy.

The “Steely Eyes Missile Men” flew out to the silos in blue AF Hueys.
