ISIS, which recently rebranded as the Islamic State, has solidified its control over Iraq's second-largest city by imposing Sharia law and expelling Christians who won't convert to Islam. The end of last month marked the first time a mass wasn't held in the city in more than 1600 years.
Then, matters got worse. From the Daily Beast:
Friday at noon was the deadline for Christian families to meet ISIS’s demands: Convert to Islam, pay an anachronistic Islamic tax for non-Muslims known as jizya, leave Mosul, or be killed. But the day before the final exodus, Christians were informed jizya was no longer an option. The order came to convert, leave, or die.
On the way out of town last week, the final 1500 families of Mosul's Christian population were reportedly robbed at ISIS checkpoints. And following Friday's deadline, ISIS reportedly set fire to a 1800-year-old church.
Last month, ISIS shocked much of the world by swiftly capturing Mosul in an offensive that allowed the group to take control of major parts of northern and western Iraq. As Reuters reported, the group has managed to shore up its control over communities with a combination of force and fear. After meeting armed resistance in the town of al-Alam for nearly two weeks, here's what the group did:
They kidnapped 30 local families and rang up the town's most influential citizens with a simple message about the hostages: "You know their destiny if you don't let us take over the town."
Weeks later, according to the report, only a few gunman patrol the town at night "so comfortable is the Islamic State in its control through fear." Since then, with Baghdad as the prize in mind, the group has grown in size from 3,000 by earlier estimates to 20,000 as last month's offensive bolstered their standing.
And the world is paying no attention. The subhuman savages will continue to do what they do best: maim, rape, destroy and murder.
They must be expelled from civilized countries.

THe pendulum sometimes swings the other way. I’m looking forward to the day, probably well after I’m gone, when people stomp out all visible signs of Islam after it’s recognized for the satanic scourge that it is.

Tell everyone to surrender or die. Any one who comes out -- must surrender.
When or if they don't surrender, then in fine modern style, shell & bomb the place into rubble, then bounce the rubble.

The representative of the Russian Orthodox Church has told Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin this week of the urgent situation Christians are facing around the world in persecution hot spots, and has asked him to use his power to aid their situations.
RT online reported that Metropolitan Hilarion, foreign relation chief of the Russian Orthodox Church presented evidence and statistics that stated, "Every five minutes one Christian was dying for his or her faith in some part of the word."
Christians face persecution in many nations; from church demolition in Afghanistan and bombings of churches in Iraq, to the violence against Christians taking place in rebellious towns in Syria.
After delivering the facts, Metropolitan Hilarion asked Putin to make protection and defense of Christianity around the globe a major part of his foreign policy.
And, as reported by Interfax, Putin replied, "You needn't have any doubt that that's the way it will be," assuring Hilarion that Russian foreign policy would defend Christians from persecution abroad.
Putin's recent actions seem to confirm his promise. Last week, Putin vetoed a U.N. motion calling for Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad to step down. Syrian Christians received this as good news. Assad is of the Alawite sect of Islam. Alawites and Christians are both religious minorities in Syria. Syrian Christians feel that sharing this minority status means Assad will provide them with protection. A Syrian Christian woman even told The Global Post, "Thank God for Russia. Without Russia we are doomed."
Putin has long been a supporter of Christianity and Christian values within Russia. He has called for the Church to play a larger role in citizens' social lives, better religion classes in schools, and television programs emphasizing religious values.
They're letting us know how evil, vile, and horrible, the only country that dared to promise to defend Christianity is. You know, the crisis in Ukraine that just happened to result in a coup when it was critical that no one pay attention to Iraq where was preparing for an offensive. So, . . .it doesn't look like they'll be checkmated there by Putin intervening in Iraq like they were in Syria.
But, you know, anything that detracts from the propaganda the media pumps out (propaganda Conservatives who should know better lap up like kittens lap up cream spiked with catnip) is a conspiracy theory, right? There's no media/Muzzie/US machine making sure Muzzies are never confronted in any way, nah, couldn't be. And the Muslim Brotherhood is just a Bridge Club, and the thugs in Ukraine would never lie, and His Majesty King Barry I has it all under control, and the US media would never be a party to such things anyway.
Well, this is Afghanistan all over again. We helped them fight off the Russians, and then Al Qaeda filled the vacuum. Here, we helped them get rid of the Ba’ath party, and Isis fills the hole. I think it’s time to either admit that Bush was rather idealistic to believe any Muslim country is fit for anything other than secular totalitarianism or religious totalitarianism, or we step in and take over completely. I’m not saying I know which answer is correct, but I suspect it’s the first one. These people are simply not fit for anything else. They have to be told what to do every minute of their lives and they’ll basically cave to the loudest voice.
About time for the Crusades to come back. They were brutal.

Yeah. Ok, I'm old enough to remember when people were making the same arguments about Germany and South Korea. We shed enough blood already, it was idealistic to think they wouldn't be the source of problems forever, on and on, and why the US should abandon them to their fate instead of keeping troops there. Hell, they rioted and bitched about the US all the time anyway.
But, we stayed.
We held the line, we paid the price in blood and treasure, no cut and run.
Now no one makes those same arguments about the South Koreans and Germans. Those two places had the time to raise an entire generation in peace seeing the benefits of peace and impartial law. They knew peace was better and a whole generation and the bow wave of the next was taught, by people who experienced both, they were better off than under totalitarianism. With less than a whole generation people learn, "we've always had a dictator, a ruling class of some sort, we fight, a foreign country takes over, dictators change, we fight, we repeat. That's life"
The problem is you can't save people from dictatorship and scumbags without being willing to stay and keep the peace for a whole generation after you do so. A whole, 40 year, generation. Otherwise, you get Iraq as it is at the moment.
When Colin Powell said, "you break it, you own it", truer words were never spoken. Once you own it, if you throw it in the trash when you're tired of it, claiming the people you were responsible for are worthless simpletons anyway is just an excuse to cut an run. Islam isn't even the excuse some make it out to be, look at Egypt and even Syria, a dictatorship, protecting Christians as well as Muzzies. The difference is those who cut them loose at some point had been there to veto excesses a generation or more. In Egypt and Syria, much more.
IMHO, history proves that's the case almost every time. The "one whole generation" rule of thumb has been successful since the age of "Pax Romana" and the exceptions have almost all been when people revolted and got help (before or after winning, macht nichts), not when someone took over by force then left in less than a generation.

I also have a very low opinion of Islam, which is utterly embedded in their every breath. But this is academic. We both agree that at least one of us is right: either they need us, or they are unsalvageable, but we both know they aren't going to pull it together on their own.
Ask the Poles about Germany, "If a German is coming in the front door and a Russian in the back, which do you shoot first? The German, business before pleasure.", you know, Poland?
These things matter or these things can always be looked at the way a skilled accountant looks at your books, "What do you want your books to look like??

Yeah, but Islam goes back to the 7th century. There’s no comparison.
I don’t know how many of you know this, but Mosul has the Nabi Yunis mosque in the center of the city just over the Tigris on the east side. It is supposedly the location of the tomb of the Biblical prophet Jonah.
Word is that ISIS smashed the tomb with sledgehammers.
On the overall list of atrocities these scumbags have committed, it’s probably fairly low, but it just goes to show how little respect Muslims have to anything resembling a culture that isn’t theirs.
