Do you think Bill tanked it when Hillary ran in 2008?

Not so much Bill’s sabotage but with the huge Clinton foundation war chest it can be Hillary who decides it will be more enjoyable and easier on her health to run this foundation than to be president. Which is a younger mans game

I can see where he would be very conflicted.

On one hand, he probably really wants to be in the center of power again, flying on AF-One.

On the other hand, since their “marriage” is a sham anyway (more of an alliance really), there is no guarantee she will let him call any of the shots. Once she is POTUS, she may just freeze him out. There is also the matter of his legacy. He probably worries that if she gets in, she will really screw things up. Lastly, he probably still feels superior to her since he was POTUS and she wasn’t. If she is elected, that is gone forever.

IMO, i don’t believe he tanked, I just don’t think he put a lot of effort into it in the beginning. They figured she would just be a walk in for the nomination. After South Carolina, it became personal for him. It’s always about him. This time around I think he will tank because he doesn’t want to be in the shadows. His recent feeble attempt to explain away her financial gaffes was telling. Very weak and lackluster effort. I bet he heard plenty about it afterwards.

If Hillary loses, Bill Clinton's ‘power’ and status will evaporate - along with Hillary's and Chelsea's.

The taint of 'loser' will be the last collective memory of the family by the country - and with donors in places like the UAE it will matter. Bill Clinton knows this. He also knows his wife's most important ‘qualification’ for office was her marriage to him.

From that perspective - Bill's right. Hillary should NOT run.

Bill Clinton, First Gentleman?

He may be a first, but he will never be a "gentleman" in my mind.

The quote from the article which says it all:

Friends of Bill say in the book that the former president with the wandering eye ‘dreaded’ the idea of going back to the White House in 2017 because he would be ‘trapped’ there, leashed, without room for his libido to run or any meaningful say in government policy.

He would also find his wings clipped – literally losing his ability to jet-set and entertain celebrities nonstop in exotic locales between $750,000 speaking engagements.

This purveys a perspective totally opposite of the understanding of years of “the Clintons”.

It was understood for many years IT would be Bill, THEN Hill in the WH, but Bill allegedly blew the bridge to that future, and ended up with Obama as the “Party” couldn’t trust either of them to put their interests first.

It was the Clinton’s bank account first, THEN the party’s interests is what appeared to be the priority, thus when it came time for Hill’s coronation, the party backed Obama the “yes man”.

That’s how we saw the story of the Clinton’s for many years, thus find it difficult to buy that Bill would not want to be where he intended to be albeit later in life with Hillary in the WH.

At times during Hillary’s 2008 campaign, Bill turned up and seemed “off message”, if that’s the right term. He railed against the media pushing Obama, and “fairy tales” being told about Obama, about playing race cards, about being shut out of caucuses in Nevada unfairly. He seemed to go off on his own during Hillary’s campaign, and was not always helpful to Hillary by his actions.

The former president is 'deeply conflicted'...

I think they used to refer to that state-of-mind as 'Horny'.

Just think, we have to endure the daily episodes of the Hillary/Bubba/Chelsea soap opera, "As Our Stomachs Churn" for the next two-and-a-half years!

There's no hiding from it.......!

Hillary knows how to take care of Bill. She’ll be a grieving but steadfast widow (and grandmother!) by election time, saying “Let’s win one more for the Zipper”.
