WASHINGTON (Reuters) President Barack Obama told a group of young black, Hispanic, Native American and Asian men on Monday that they need be proud of their backgrounds and draw strength from their cultures, but ignore people who accuse them of acting white.
Obama shared the advice to the young men as part of his My Brothers Keeper program that is marshalling private and public resources to help more boys from minority groups succeed, a program that he views as an important part of his legacy.

Number one is: work. Its a pretty simple concept. There is nothing worthwhile where it just falls in your lap, he added.
At least I don't think he's being satirical.
I’m guessing that being a black conservative isn’t what he had in mind.
He’s just reading off the teleprompter. Nothing registers beyond that.
Ah. So he's being punk'd.

“Golf is not just for white guys!”
Sadly, we’re well beyond the point where words uttered one minute mean anything the next. It’s just for the half-black Ted Baxter, it’s always been like that.
I like the kid on the lower left who starts yawning two minutes into the speech.
That's about where I stopped watching. I'll check back later and see if he falls asleep.
“As a general rule, things don’t end well if the sentence starts with, ‘Let me tell you something about the Negro,’” Obama said. “You don’t really need to know the rest of it, just a tip for you.”
Racist degenerate. His sloth and dishonesty trump anything he may spew.
Those were his comments on Cliven Bundy
“Im guessing that being a black conservative isnt what he had in mind.’
I have told non-black prospective students at the universities I have worked at that if they really want to be accepted them list themselves as “Black” on their application.
This is the only way to really beat the affirmative action stuff.
So yeah, I would agree, there is more than one way to be Black
He must have had a long conversation with Bill Clinton . interns. You know like a beer summit... intern summit. Oh never mind, Bambi doesn’t do interns unless they are of a particular sex...I mean gender.
And is he black? Really black. Mr. Mulatto just might be Arab before being an authentic black.
Said the guy who is not authentic in anything. He is the epitome of a phony human being. There is only one other high-profile person as fake-human as him, and that would be John Kerry.
These people don’t even know how to ACT human in any convincing manner.
“And is he black? Really black. Mr. Mulatto just might be Arab before being an authentic black.”
Culturally Mr Obama is not an “African-American”
His mother was not Black and his father (Assuming the claim that he was from Kenya) was simply African. After his parents divorced she married an Indonesian and Barrack grew up in Jakarta. A white guy from Alabama is probably more in tune with the needs, aspirations and experiences of Black America than Mr. Obama. All he knows is what he read in a history book
I think this thread is heading in a silly direction. I dislike Obama, his politics and his current state of rancor he brought on himself by declaring he can go it alone.
But to use this example to come down on him? I think the worst you can say about his visit is ‘even a blind squirrel finds acorn or two’.

“The notion that theres some authentic way of being black, that if youre going to be black you have to act a certain way and wear a certain kind of clothes, that has to go, Obama said.”
If your students truly want to compete fairly, they could just leave the racial section blank on their college applications. In the end, most colleges care about only one thing, anyway - the SAT score.
I agree with you that the quote you posted is actually good advice.
