How far left was I? So far left my beloved uncle was a card-carrying member of the Communist Party in a Communist country. When I returned to his Slovak village to buy him a mass card, the priest refused to sell me one. So far left that a self-identified terrorist proposed marriage to me. So far left I was a two-time Peace Corps volunteer and I have a degree from UC Berkeley. So far left that my Teamster mother used to tell anyone who would listen that she voted for Gus Hall, Communist Party chairman, for president. I wore a button saying "Eat the Rich." To me it wasn't a metaphor.
I voted Republican in the last presidential election.
Below are the top ten reasons I am no longer a leftist. This is not a rigorous comparison of theories. This list is idiosyncratic, impressionistic, and intuitive. It's an accounting of the milestones on my herky-jerky journey.
10) Huffiness.
In the late 1990s I was reading Anatomy of the Spirit, a then recent bestseller by Caroline Myss.
Myss described having lunch with a woman named Mary. A man approached Mary and asked her if she were free to do a favor for him on June 8th. No, Mary replied, I absolutely cannot do anything on June 8th because June 8th is my incest survivors' meeting and we never let each other down! They have suffered so much already! I would never betray incest survivors!
Myss was flabbergasted. Mary could have simply said "Yes" or "No."(continued)

About when did farmers stop using their own corn as seed for the next crop?
and second question; if private corporations shouldn't be allowed to patent their seed, as it means they control a portion of or food production, explain to me why you aren't objecting to private corporations patenting life saving drugs, and thus controlling our opportunity to continue to stay alive?

I was never a leftist. Not even when I was a teenager. Why? Because I was always dedicated to the TRUTH. Only self-decievers are leftists. Well, excepting the few at the top who know it's all a lie that they cynically use to bamboozle the self-deluded masses to achieve political power over them.

Thanks for the post. Saved as a very succinct and useful guidebook. These are the stormtroopers for fascism. They are both dystopian and dangerous. Sadly, I don’t think they are fixable.
I hope you don’t mean me, although I’m sure I’ve slipped up in eight years here. I have defended Gov. Palin and to a lesser extent other females against vicious attacks here, as I’m sure you’ve seen.
No, I’m not speaking specifically of you. I actually rarely remember WHO it was (I try to let it go). I’ve just seen it enough on here that it disappoints me when it happens.

We must "become" what they are if we hope to survive. You fight leftist fire with rightwing conflagration. You fight commie Alinsky tactics with Al Capone tactics. Times ten.
The problem with conservatives is that we're soooooo cloyingly nice. We're talking about people who celebrate sodomy and abortion. We're talking about wealthy Jews who abet anti-Semites like Farrakhan and Jesse Jackson and give aid and comfort to the Islamic enemy. We're talking about people who want to take our rights away, including rights to raise our children as we see fit, to keep and bear arms, to speak our minds.
The b*tch who wrote this transparent non-apology supported all of those things for most of her sterile leftist life. She voted for baby killers and sodomites.
And now you and other conservatives on this thread want to just forgive all of that without demanding a full accounting? Without demanding full restitution?
Cheap forgiveness hardly engenders a real commitment to justice. One cannot claim fealty to the TRUTH and so easily let pass liars and their horrific works.
There must be no forgetting or forgiving the progressives who worked diligently and for decades to destroy all that we hold dear.

I pretty much fit in that “never a leftist, not even as a teenager” mold myself - but Ronaldus Maximus himself was a “liberal” in 1950, and Thomas Sowell was a marxist until he was about 30. So I think we can all profit from a little humility . . .

Of course, Item #1...Hate...is the most encompassing. Deep down, liberals are angry at everything and it manifests itself in their approach to everything.
They think everyone but them is stupid, evil, or both. And that includes other liberals.
