Eden Foods' Hobby Lobby-esque Birth Control Fight Sparks Boycott

Spurred on by the Supreme Court’s recent Hobby Lobby ruling, Eden Foods CEO Michael Potter has revived a March 2013 case to nix coverage of all birth control from his employees’ healthcare plans. In turn, many shoppers have soured on the organic food giant and are boycotting its products.

“In accordance with his Catholic faith, Potter believes that any action which either before, at the moment of, or after sexual intercourse, is specifically intended to prevent procreation, whether as an end or means -- including abortifacients and contraception -- is wrong,” Erin Mersino, Eden’s lawyer from the conservative Thomas More Law Center, said in a statement sent to The Huffington Post on Friday.

I know the Supreme Court tried to write their decision to fit the narrow circumstances of the two companies involved, but I don't see how the court can say that Eden Foods doesn't have the same rights to religious freedom that Hobby Lobby has. And sooner or later it's going to have to extend to other areas of medical insurance coverage other than birth control.

One of the roots of such wasteful, foolish, thuggish, and tyrannous government is the ease with which it can create almost unlimited amounts of money out of thin air. Near-infinite money buys near-infinite government, and a bureaucracy that is generously funded can entertain an open-ended dream about how to expand its realm.

Every day more people are coming to the judgment that a carefully organized effort to repair the constitution via the States’ power to propose and ratify amendments has less risk to our liberty and prosperity than the present trajectory of the federal government and especially the federal bureaucracy.

The first order of business of an Article V Convention must be to limit government’s ability to create and spend near-infinite amounts of money.

I'm going to Publix tomorrow and will head for its organic food section.

Eden Foods does organic crushed tomatoes in jars, pasta, pinto beans, canned chili, pistachios and other snacks, sauerkraut, fruit juices and many other products...all organic and all first-class quality.

There certainly will be several items for me to purchase....and I shall do so. I shall feed the principled hand that feeds me.

Catholics are not to use ANY birth control ever for any reason or hell awaits basically because they put You in control of life versus God. Your control is the natural prior one.....intercourse. its very well reasoned out since the apotsles time. Nothing new or changeable.

I doubt seriously that “many” shoppers are boycotting.
This is such a fringe issue I do not see people putting themselves out in some useless protest for it.
