After Jon Stewart Goes to Bat for Gaza, Hillary Clinton Puts Him in His Place [Israel and Hamas]

A day after Jewish comedian Jon Stewart caused outrage with a segment on his Daily Show on the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, he hosted former Secretary of State, and wannabe president, Hillary Clinton on his show to address the topic. After Stewart attempted to draw her into criticizing Israel, Clinton swiftly put him in his place.

Stewart: Can we at least agree that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is overwhelming and that the world must do more for the people who are trapped by this conflict?

Clinton: And they’re trapped by their leadership. unfortunately, it’s a two-pronged trapping that is committed to resistance and violence and therefore their actions are mostly about how do we get new and better missiles to launch them at Israel instead of saying, ‘hey, lets try to figure out how we’re going to help make your lives better.’ And when I negotiated the cease-fire in November of 2012, it was right on the brink of Israel once again invading Gaza because of the rockets and so I flew from Cambodia, where I was with the president, to try to see what I can do. And, you know, the Israelis are absolutely right in saying that they can’t just sit there and let rockets rain down. They have a missile defense system, which is working well, but, you know, that can’t be certain, and now there are drones apparently that are being launched from Gaza.

Except Leibowitz has a track record of disdain for a hawkish Israel ala Bibi

This is his usual rant.

I do agree though she is pandering to Jewish zip codes

It is kind of pathetic to watch some of these commentators trot out the same old lines they used in 2008. It doesn’t matter whether a lot of Israelis are killed or not. If 100’s of rockets were raining down on New York, Long Island or New Jersey or whatever, there is no government that could continue to rule if they did not respond with all the might they could muster to end it. This is government 101. Defend your population from attack. A government that does not act to defend their people has no moral authority to lead. Every politician knows this, every diplomat knows this. Its brain dead to think anybody can tell Israel they should not act with extreme prejudice. Israel puts up with all kind of awful random acts of violence including sporadic rocket attacks and gets no credit for it when it does. But at some point when “turning the other cheek” just encourages more attacks and when diplomacy, sanctions etc fail to work Israel has to act as any government would act. Rockets falling every day is a national crisis, is the front page and headline on every news channel, the talk all over the town, it disrupts the economy and on and on. Israel has to attack and if that doesn’t stop they have to invade, and maybe even occupy, arrest and/or kill the top “military commanders” in Hamas.

Of course it was a set-up! For many reasons including her political career. The fact that she is speaking also forces the Obama administration’s hand in some way too. When she “served at the pleasure of the President” she had to say what he wanted. Now she can say what she wants, what is in her interest to say and perhaps its also be a way to get back at Obama, to lead from the sideline, to one-up the administration or second-guess/undermine its diplomacy.

Call my cynical but I'm calling BS. It was all scripted to help Shillary.

Totally contrived to make Hillary look like a voice of reason. I bet she rehearsed the answer a dozen times.

Hillary's put her finger to the wind... she knows which way it's blowing. Good for her. Today she stands with Israel... well, until the winds shift.

Too bad we can't ask the dead SEALS how they feel about Hillary's 'loyalty' - might be telling.

Benjamin Netanyahu wasn't born yesterday - he'll be happy for Hillary's support but he's smart enough to know he can't count on it... (Now that Israel is winning we can expect John Kerry to become 'nicer' too)

She just couldn’t help herself. This is one of her bigger problems. She is self righteous and thinks she is smarter than everyone else. Her blood pressure musta been sky high when she worked for Obama.

Smells like he COOPERATED in his own “drubbing” at the Strong Hand of Hillaghazi”.

I…..don’t trust this.

She NEVER does ANYTHING honest and she handled this TOO smoothly.

SET UP.

I agree. I think Stewart took a dive so that Hillary could make herself look good by "putting him in his place." This was about as real as the famous Jerry Lawler - Andy Kaufman "confrontation" on David Letterman's show.

I hear ya. It is interesting the appreciation that foreigners have for some folks we would see in a negative light physically though. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Still, the face of Web Hubbel is a tough sell in any culture IMO. Perhaps there’s a space alien out there somewhere that would appreciate the Hubbel look.

Yikes.

She will let Fauxcahontas run to her left and all but call for concentration camps for Christians, while see works to build a public perception as a “moderate”. That’s my great fear.

The problem with that scenario is that the majority of folks that vote in the Democrat primaries would nominate Senator Warren over Hillary.

It’s quite possible a “moderate” will never again represent the Democrats.
