A political battle has broken out on Wikipedia over an entry relating to the crash of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, with the Russian government reportedly removing sections which accuse it of providing "terrorists" with missiles that were used to down the civilian airliner.
A Twitter bot which monitors edits made to the online encyclopaedia from Russian government IP addresses (unique numbers relating to certain computers or networks) has spotted that changes are being made to a page relating to the crash.
It appears that an internet user from within the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) changed a Russian language version of a page listing civil aviation accidents to say that "The plane [flight MH17] was shot down by Ukrainian soldiers".
That edit replaced text written just an hour earlier - which said MH17 had been shot down "by terrorists of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic with Buk system missiles, which the terrorists received from the Russian Federation."

Whatever the outcome of that fight, the truth will be the likely loser.
Operation INFEKTION was a KGB disinformation campaign to spread information that the United States invented HIV/AIDS[2] as part of a biological weapons research project at Fort Detrick, Maryland. The Soviet Union used it to undermine the United States credibility, foster anti-Americanism, isolate America abroad, and create tensions between host countries and the U.S. over the presence of American military bases (which were often portrayed as the cause of AIDS outbreaks in local populations).[3]
Same thing the DemocRATS did to our American History books. Must be a communist thing.
I would look to the contemporaneous accounts of the people claiming that they did it, myself.
Yes, they have decades of experience there.
The guy pulling the trigger may not even truly know who he was working for
Given the Russian propensity for deceit and double-dealing, I'd be inclined to believe the opposite of just about anything they say.
Personally, I believe the most likely scenario is that the plane was shot down by some drunken pro-Russian separatist fighters/terrorists who thought they were shooting at some Ukrainian military plane. But who knows…
“In war, truth is the first casualty.”
Aeschylus
I believe it is the most likely scenario myself. Sad thing is, the Russians can’t bring themselves to admit it. (And I don’t mean that in a necessarily bad way—simply observing that if the Russians admitted it now, instead of concocting all sorts of conspiracies, they’d be better off).
So the Russian-aligned Ukrainian rebels, using Russian-made and provided weapons (potentially including Russian "advisers" to help them use them), may not have known who they were working for? Seriously? When the allegation is that the rebel commander involved is a also a member of the GRU?
At this point, the Russia-shilling has accelerated to ludicrous speed ("They've gone to plaid")...
The Soviets were also active in planting stories casting doubt on the Warren Commission, and suggesting the involvement of right wing conspirators in the assassination of JFK.
Putin-x-KGB=Someone will be dead soon to resolve this.
Heck, that butterface gold digger Jackie Onassis took the lead role in suggesting this, even though she knew that Oswald was a Red through and through.
“Yeah. I wonder if well ever know for sure which side shot down that plane.”
...and if you look out the left side, you’ll see an exchange of mortar fire and tank rounds.
To be honest, I don’t really care which side took out the plane - I’m more interested in knowing why it was flying directly over a WAR ZONE where military planes had been shot down, and whether that practice will continue in the future.
Meaning anyone can edit it. Did they check for edits from our government?
Same here. This reminds me of Iranian flight 655 that was headed directly for the U.S. Navy ship.
