How exactly does the IDF dismantle Hamas’s offensive tunnels, some 60-feet-deep, over a mile long, with multiple exits.
The tunnel threat, the unknowingness of it, has eclipsed the threat of rockets in Israel’s war with Gaza. This may change in the future, if detection methods improve. For now, though, after narrowly thwarting a mega-attack in the Eshkol region on Thursday, Israel has sent in troops to find, probe, and destroy the underground arteries that stretch beneath the border, all along the border.
Brig. Gen. Miki Edelstein, the Gaza division commander, told reporters near an offensive tunnel discovered in October 2013 that the entrance to that tunnel was likely in the back yard of a civilian’s home in Rafah.
Brig. Gen. (res) Shimi Daniel, a former commander of the combat engineering corps, painted a more complex picture. He said Thursday on Channel 2 news that the entrance shafts of the tunnels are located within civilian homes and that, by the time troops arrive, “they’ve already poured fresh concrete over the opening.”

We blew 20,000 lbs of Composition B in 30lb Cratering charges, a little C4 and 6,000 feet of det cord to blow up just two tunnel complexes on the Batangan Peninsula in Vietnam.
Each complex was about 3,000 long. We hauled the cratering charges down by hand into the (usually) 1 meter square tunnels, placing them 5-10 meters apart. They were linked with det cord, then we’d blow about 3,000lbs at a time.
The trick was finding the continuation of the tunnel in the resulting linear crater. :-)
And Israel doesn’t know that? ... :-) ...

And I’ve half serious about that, because I think these types have more in common with criminal types than they do with religious types. They probably have bacon and eggs for breakfast ... :-) ...
Take a giant ditch witch, cut a gigantic hole at the border, fill it with rebar, drill deep holes every three foot, fill with water, rig the holes with water level sensors.
If it gets dewatered, bomb the heck out of water tunnel punctured it.

Growing up on a farm, there were always chickens, and chicken coops. Invariable, rats would tunnel into them and steal the eggs. Trapping them never totally got rid of them, so my uncle devised a plan. He trapped one alive, doused it in kerosene, lit it on fire, and let it go into the tunnels, running for it's life and screaming in fear and agony...
The eggs poaching (pardon the pun) ceased...
These tunnels are ratholes for Hamas rats
When found, pump the tunnels full of sewage.

booby traps. leave the tunnels intact, but booby trap them with a large number of undetectable anti-personnel mines that are set to go off after a random number of infrared detections. Different bombs set for different counts, so that they go off days, weeks, and months later based on detection counts. And/or wire ‘em up for video so the IMF can play whack-a-mole at the Israeli ends of the tunnels.
We are overrun with wild boars in this country. Let the IDF capture as many as they want so they can let them loose in the tunnels.
