Hamas threatened Israel on Thursday evening and warned that it will pay a "high price" for launching a ground assault on Gaza.
"The start of the Israeli ground attack on Gaza is a dangerous step, the consequences of which have not been calculated," Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a statement quoted by AFP.
"Israel will pay a high price and Hamas is ready for the confrontation," he declared.
"With this action the Israeli government seeks to restore the morale of its soldiers and the morale of its army leadership - a leadership that is collapsing because of the qualitative blows of the resistance,” Barhoum claimed.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said earlier Thursday that the ground assault on Gaza was meant to hit the terrorist tunnels leading from Gaza into Israeli territory, and noted that the operation was a direct result of Hamas’s refusal to accept Egypt’s proposal for a ceasefire.

Israel is not eliminating Hamas. This operation is to go no further in to Gaza than THREE KILOMETERS. And then, they’re outta there!
Here’s hoping for a high Hamas body count.

One would hope that they’d defend their infiltration tunnels to the last man, but that’s too optimistic.

Hamas will go to great efforts to murder IDF troops during this invasion.
This is a shame.
Israel should treat Hamas the same way that Republican politicians SHOULD treat the radical Socialists on the Left.
Israel seems to be doing this in stages. You don’t call up 74,000 reservists for just going three kilometers in. I think there might be another stage after this incursion.
When you see Israel release those 74,000 reservists, then you’ll know it’s over for the time being.
Israel is only calling it an INCURSION and not an invasion. They’re going no further than thee kilometers in, and then out again!
If they at least confronted IDF troops, it would be legitimate warfare on their part. But they will not.
Probably not, because Hamas will simply go further in than three kilometers ... LOL ... Israel is going no further in.
This time, I think we might have a smart commander.
