Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi has thus far turned down appeals from Palestinians and other Arabs to work toward achieving a new ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Palestinian Authority [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas telephoned Sisi and urged him to intervene to achieve an "immediate ceasefire" between Israel and Hamas. Abbas later admitted that his appeal to Sisi and (other Arab leaders) had fallen on deaf ears.
Sisi's decision not to intervene in the current crisis did not come as a surprise. In fact, Sisi and many Egyptians seem to be delighted that Hamas is being badly hurt.
Some Egyptians are even openly expressing hope that Israel will completely destroy Hamas, which they regard as the "armed branch of the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organization."
Sisi's Egypt has not forgiven Hamas for its alliance with Muslim Brotherhood and its involvement in terrorist attacks against Egyptian civilians and soldiers over the past year.
The Egyptians today understand that Hamas and other radical Islamist groups pose a serious threat to their national security. That is why the Egyptian authorities have, over the past year, been taking tough security measures not only against Hamas, but also the entire population of the Gaza Strip.

It is a really big difference this time around.
Now the Egyptian regime is embarked on a program of exterminating the Muslim Brotherhood - doling out death sentences in batches of several hundred at a time.
This is a great opportunity for them to eliminate a Muslim Brotherhood sanctuary right on their border. I would not be surprised if they not only provide Intel for Israeli targeting, but send in some covert military to pull triggers themselves.
Hamas is the Muslim Brotherhood, and the Egyptian Military is now in a death struggle with them. That is different from before.
An opportune time to make a strategic change in Gaza.
Wink wink.
What side are we on again?
Being as I have always believed that the only good communists and jihadists, are dead ones, what is the downside to this?
No problem in destroying the Hamas terrorist organization.
Right now, we’re on the side of Netanyahu and al-Sisi in destroying the Hamas terrorist organization.
It’s great to see that happening in Egypt. I’m glad al-Sisi is in the process of destroying the Muslim Brotherhood.

Some Middle East leaders, seeing the handiwork of their own coddling of “Palestinian” terrorism for years, trickling into support for “Arabists” AND Islamists of all sorts - now in Syria and in Iraq, might be beginning to see that the Arab and/or Islamic purity those interests seek, and have always sought, WILL leave Arab and Muslim interests at war with everyone else in one way or another.
Yep, as soon as their own regimes are at risk, they change their tune ... :-) ...
I’m on the Israel, as are most Americans. As to which side our nominal President is on...I have my suspicions.
Gosh, who knew that killing 500 Egyptian soldiers and police in the Sinai would have this kind of result?
