San Francisco is taking a new data-driven approach to a longtime city problem: human excrement.
For decades, feces on streets and sidewalks has been one of the biggest quality-of-life issues for San Francisco residents and visitors, particularly in the hard-edged Tenderloin, home base for many of the city's homeless and the nonprofits that provide them clothes, addiction help and meals.
Now, after a chorus of complaints and a month spent mapping the highest concentrations of human excrement in the Tenderloin, the Department of Public Works on Tuesday will roll out the city's latest approach: mobile bathroom stations at the three most well-used areas.
Each station will include two specially outfitted portable toilets, a sink, a needle disposal bin and a dog waste station, all mounted on a flatbed trailer.
"We're championing our residents' right to clean streets and a safe place to do their business with dignity," said Supervisor Jane Kim, who represents the area and has been pursuing a public toilet program since fall of 2012.
The city is calling the effort the Tenderloin Pit Stop, and officials are trying to learn from the past.

Why are there so many homeless in San Francisco? I thought it was a liberal utopia?
But will homosexuals use these portable toilets to meet up, creating an unintended consequence? Will druggie types go in there and shoot up? They will have needle disposal bins? Sounds like they expect druggie types to go in there. Which in turn creates yet another unintended consequence.
My guess is these private little way-stations will be used for much, much more than just elimination. My guess is that the gerbil population in San Francisco is extremely forlorn at this prospect.
There ain’t enough time left to get all the excrement out of SF. Some of it has even spread to d.c. Hi nancy!
They let sick-O’s and perverts walk around nude.
They should put toilet seats on the buses, trolley cars and park benches.

Yes, did anyone ever wonder why there are so many people in San Francisco who defecate in the streets and on sidewalks? Why do they have so many people who do this?
Perhaps being liberal means tolerating fecal matter everywhere???
I can imagine too, that many of these places smell of urine as well.
According to the article, these toilets will have an attendant, who will give you a courtesy knock on the door after 5 minutes. What if people need more time???
I had enough of SF way back when.
I lived one block off the panhandle and people would sleep in their cars, wake up and relieve themselves in the streets.
Walking through the park one afternoon, a guy just stopped, pulled down his pants and took a poop.
I couldn’t take my daughter to certain areas, needles everywhere,a public park used as a dump.
If you feed the pigeons on your patio, you get a lot of pigeon crap on your patio.
Cause and effect escapes the socialists.
“So, Bob, how’s that son of yours doing?”
“He got a job working for the city of San Francisco.”
“What’s he doing there?”
“He counts turds.”
“My, my.....look at the time. I’ve got to get going.”

Hey! Maybe they could solve the problem of the human excrement in the Offal Office, and in the offices of the Department of Jesters, headed by that lump, “Lamp” Holder.
They should send all the “migrant children” there. It’ll remind them of their home. SF is no better than a third-world hellhole.
Funny! Kudos!
You do have to wonder, why does San Francisco literally have **** in the streets? Every city in America has homeless. Do they deal with them differently in other places? Do other cities provide bathrooms for homeless? How is this handled in other places?
Is San Francisco getting the end result of liberalism, in that, they have been so liberal with homeless that they now have critical masses that overwhelm their efforts????
Geez....yep....I can see the resumes......I was a public port-a-Johnny monitor....I’m qualified to do your taxes now.
Sounds to me like a tough job. Seriously. Would you want to be a bathroom attendant in which various dregs of society go in there? Would you want to give them the courtesy knock on the door that time is up????
“I left my turd
In San Francisco.
High on a hill
It rolled down on a tourist.”
