Death of Sierra Guyton should be a wake-up call for everyone
Milwaukee J-S ^ | 15 july 2014 | James Causey

Posted on 07/15/2014 3:47:48 AM PDT by rellimpank

Sierra Guyton put up a long fight, but on Sunday her young body finally succumbed to her injuries.

It was two months ago that a dispute between two men ended in gunfire and 10-year-old Sierra was shot in the head as she played at the Clarke Street Elementary School playground.

Sierra died about 1:35 a.m. Sunday at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. She was taken off life support June 25, but survived another 2 1/2 weeks.

If an effort ever was needed to get young black men to put down their guns and settle their disputes in a sensible manner, this is a case that everyone should pay attention to. Sierra could have been anyone's daughter. She could have been my daughter. As the father of a 10-year-old, I don't know what I would do if this happened to my little princess.

Sierra's father, Onjuan Guyton, described the last few weeks for him and his family as living in hell. I think few ever could know the pain that this family is going through, but sadly these types of events in some Milwaukee neighborhoods are becoming all too familiar.

I don't know why Sylvester Lewis, 18, and Jamey Jackson, 28, who were charged in the shooting that wounded Sierra, allegedly decided to settle their dispute with guns. Lewis is suspected of hitting Sierra while firing at Jackson, and Jackson was charged with possession of a firearm as a felon.

There isn't really anything that they can say to justify their alleged actions. What we do know is that we have a serious problem that needs to be fixed. We have a gun problem, in which too many felons are illegally carrying and using weapons.

“If an effort ever was needed to get young black men to put down their guns and settle their disputes in a sensible manner, this is a case that everyone should pay attention to. “

The cultural role of bread winner, father, husband and teacher has been ripped from black men by the nanny state government. If a woman marries one she doesn’t qualify for as much free stuff. If he studies hard and applies himself in school he gets the cr*p beat out of him by his peers. His role models are millionaire drug dealers and rappers who die young from stupidity and testosterone poisoning.

So, they have no purpose other than to pose themselves decoratively in macho mode with guns, drugs and bling. They are human peacocks trying to impress each other because they can’t impress a woman.

I lay this failure at LBJ’s feet. And, I think he chuckles every time a black dies, ‘cause he was that kind of guy.

NO! We have a MORALITY PROBLEM...guns are not the problem.

I lay this failure at LBJ’s feet.

We often debate who is the worst president, the current Muslim-loving commie, the massively corrupt rapist, the mentally retarded peanut-brain, the commissar of the "war on poverty"... the list goes on and on.

The truth is, every single Democrat president does the maximum amount of damage to the United States that he can do given the historical constraints of his time in office. With the possible exceptions of Kennedy and Truman, this equation fits every democrat president since Wilson (and especially including Wilson).

Do more of these kids have guns, or friends with guns?

Or fathers living in their homes with them?

Guns do what their missing father don’t do.
Protect these boys and affirm their “manhood”.

To the permanent underclass, the same holds true of Republicans. I’m currently reading a book about the draft riots in NYC, and many of the views of Democrats today are the same as the welfare class back during the Civil War.

Well said. To which I'd add: There are simply no decent full-time jobs for anyone living in the inner cities. Fifty years ago, there were choices: work in a mill, in a factory, or perhaps at the railroad.

Today, the choices are: part-time at McDonalds, or...well, that's about it.

This awful jobs situation, of course, doesn't excuse criminal behavior. But it helps explain it.

Increasingly common among whites today; we are a couple of decades behind the cultural rot of the ghetto, and many whites are now where urban blacks were in the 60s and 70s.

I worked (serially) for two huge companies that got their floor personnel off the welfare roles. These were mostly black men who resentfully took the jobs because if they didn’t they’d get knocked off welfare anyway. A white employee acted as a pawn broker and loaned them money for their guns. When he showed them to me he had roughly 50, from a workforce of 300. I have never seen guns like these. They were foreign knockoffs of other designs and so poorly made that the castings hadn’t been polished or trimmed before bluing. I didn’t know cr*p like this was available. But, they worked just fine.

So, keeping you and me from owning a Smith or a Kahr at $500 will not stop these guys from getting “guns” at $50.

This too is the fault of the nanny state. When I grew up there were plating shops all over town, mostly with five or six people. But all those were shut by EPA regulations. The EPA, taxation, state benefits requirements, free government lawyers for your racially aggrieved employees have driven the companies, and thus the jobs, offshore. They won’t come back until the government is cut down in size and scope. Frankly, I don’t see that happening. As Reagan said, “nothing approaches immortality more than a government program.”

No, the problem is with the black urban subculture where all that is real America has been chucked for separatism defined by an economy based on urban political corruption and drugs.

The problem is the larger black community tolerates and in the case of politicos, promotes the sub cultural detritus. The problem is that the larger lliberal culture ignores the problem and hides the fact that their black community surrogates allow the young men to kill each other.

Even if there WERE jobs available to these young blacks men, they wouldn’t go ten feet toward them since they can make more money by doing less, selling drugs, robbing, stealing and on and on and then there is the “welfare” system where the gubmint gives them what they need. We have all heard, “What, me work? NO WAY!”

You are correct except you omitted the fact that they are not adequately educated to function in today’s work places. The people in question simply aren’t capable to work as needed

No problem I can help you out here.
It is a cultural thing. You know the stuff that liberals and progressives tell us we must tolerate all the time.
A lifestyle that groups of people have chosen to live their lives by. 40/50 years ago this truly would not have been acceptable. Adult men in neighborhoods would have gotten together kicked some ass and put a stop to it before it grew. Now in our everything is okay and must be tolerated society no one has the balls to stand up and do the right things anymore.

True for perhaps 10-20%, but not more than that.

I am an urban high school teacher. One of the schools I taught in was, at the time, 50% black and 50% white. I offered after school tutoring in math, for anyone who was interested.

The kids who came were almost entirely black. I was never quite sure why that was. The neighborhood was, at that time, relatively safe, lots of homes were owned by older whites. So it wasn't that the white students were afraid to stay after school.

Anyway, the black kids came for the extra help, lots of them. They had the right mindset.

If I had to guess, I'd guess that many of them now have criminal records, because the odds favor that guess. So what do I conclude? Those kids had the right mindset, but no opportunities. As General Blather noted, the government made sure of that.

Really? The ‘nanny state’...LOL! No, its not the nanny state at fault. They simply supply the bait. Its those who have no morals or ethics that snap that bait up...to their own demise. We’re the problem and nothing will change until we decide not to enrich ourselves by $ taken from our neighbor. If we continue failing to take responsibility for our own actions how will we continue as a country? A natural result of self reform is govt reform.
