In a stunning rebuke of President Obamas tepid calls for Israel to show "restraint" in response to daily rocket fire on Israeli civilian targets by Hamas terror redoubts in Gaza, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, long considered Israels best friend and strongest defender, all but condemned President Obama by name for what he regards as Washingtons irresolute support for Israel during its time of grave crisis.
In perhaps his most strongly worded statement to date, Prime Minister Harper proclaimed that self defense is "not merely an Israeli right" to be exercised only in the abstract, but an "Israeli obligation" that must be defended by all Western nations.
Failure by the international community to condemn these reprehensible actions will encourage these terrorists to continue their appalling actions, Harper said in a rare Sunday statement. Canada calls on its allies and partners to recognize that these terrorist acts [by Hamas] are unacceptable and that solidarity with Israel is the best way of stopping the conflict."
Forget about the U.S.-Israel relationship being the bulwark of Israeli security, say some. Israels best friend and staunchest defender is no longer found in Washington, but rather in Ottawa.
Ending the war does not require Israeli "restraint," implies Harper. It demands the world declare that sole responsibility for the terror of violence belongs with the terrorists. It is Hamas, claims Harper, that is entirely responsible for the current Israel-Hamas war. It is evident, Harper asserts, that Hamas is deliberately using human shields to further terror in the region, and he takes several swipes at the United Nations and the international community for calling for Israeli restraint in the face of escalating rocket fire aimed at murdering and maiming Israeli civilians. . .

Egyptian ceasefire proposal leaves Hamas cornered
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3180308/posts
Either the Islamists accept near-humiliating terms, or they risk isolation and a stepped-up Israeli military assault
[O]ne thing is certain: This is the darkest hour for the Hamas leadership in Gaza and abroad
If they accept the Egyptian proposal, they will be perceived as having been heavily defeated in the latest round of conflict with Israel; a defeat that is close to a humiliation.
Thats because the conditions in the Egyptian proposal do not include any of the demands that Hamas has been repeating day and night in the last few days. As reported in the Egyptian media, there is no mention in the proposal of Hamass oft-repeated demand for the release of the dozens of its operatives, freed in the 2011 Shalit deal, who were rearrested in recent weeks by Israeli forces in the West Bank in the wake of the murders of the three Israeli teenagers. There is also no concrete commitment regarding the opening of the Rafah border crossing or the payments of the salaries of Hamass 40,000 clerks in Gaza. And there is no mention whatsoever of the situation in the West Bank. All these demands were raised by the Hamas military wing two days after Israel began Operation Protective Edge, and repeated interminably ever since.
Yes, there is some language providing for the opening of the border crossings, and an easing of movement of people and goods via those crossings as permitted by the security situation. But that language is almost a direct repetition of the November 2012 ceasefire terms that brought Operation Pillar of Defense to a close. Time and again, Hamass leaders have been stressing in recent days that there will be no return to the 2012 ceasefire terms.
I was a TAD edgy in those days. My father wouldn't allow me to be very "edgy" at all. He was no fun and SUCH a despot. I miss him still.
And some people here decry Ted Cruz’s eligibility to run for president. Unbelievable!
“Prime Minister Harper proclaimed that self defense is “not merely an Israeli right””
OK, so there are no other candidates for Leader of the Free World.
Harper is the only one champing freedom.
Canada and Australia are starting to wake up. Good for them. America? We’re in the twilights last gleaming.
Good picture!
Two great men!
Me too...he is great.
Thanks Canada.
Good for him! Sadly no one in any sort of power in this country has the cojones to stand up to zero and tell him he’s wrong.
Hey, Harper, please don’t lump the US citizens in with hussein.
6+ years into Obama’s presidency a turd would be an improvement.
The Wildrose Party hoped to win the last election but came short when the race card was played against it....for now the “Progressive Conservative Party” continues to mess things up in Alberta.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Good for him. Canada's President doesn't lead from behind.
soetoro - “Fire,’em up, hamas!” - is an enemy islamist who thinks the current state of affairs is proceeding according to plan.
Me too.
Stephen Harper is the leader of the Free World.
At first I thought you were kidding... then I thought about it. You're right dfwgator... Stephen Harper IS the leader of the Free World... there isn't anyone else who can wear that mantle... Strange.
I think the problem may be the pRes_ _ent’s warning, “Comply or die with your entire family and all your friends.”
