More than a third of all Americans and two-thirds of Republicans believe Congress would be justified in bringing impeachment proceedings against President Obama, according to a poll from YouGov and the Huffington Post released Monday.

Thirty-five percent of all respondents, including 68 percent of Republicans, say there's reason for Congress to try to remove Obama from office. By contrast, just 8 percent of Democrats say impeachment proceedings are justified.

Must everything be a political calculation?

The man is committing impeachable offenses on a virtually daily basis.

Lay his transgressions out for all to see. Impeach him. Force the Senate to show America what a partisan, worthless bunch of fools they really are.

Must everything be a political calculation?

Yes.

What is realistic, possible, risky, etc, is at the center of every political decision.

Every war is a calculation too. There are lots of enemies and bad guys, but we can't go after everyone we'd like to for all manner of reasons. A calculation is made as to whether the risks are worth it each and every time. Sometimes, for example, you have to stick with sanctions even though an enemy government is deserving of being bombed into rubble. North Korea is a Stalinist slave state worthy of being overthrown to alleviate the suffering of millions of people, but the calculations made say it isn't a realistic option.

The article also states that 27% of the population who are not Republicans but are instead Independents and Democrats favor the impeachment of the President of the United States.
Where did the article specifically state that? Did you get this from another source? Your numbers seem pretty accurate, although I think that the "undecided" camp number is probably too high.
This is The Hill, so the numbers it posted are obviously skewed for the liberals. However, what I'm not sure about is what course the liberal media likes to take in reporting numbers. Does it overestimate Obama's approval numbers in order to defend and deify the Democrats, or does it underreport in an attempt to scare Democrats into turning out and try to make Republicans feel complacent? I'd say that it does a mixture of the two strategies, although I'm not entirely sure what their pattern is based on.

The original data for the poll is given here

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2692111/Third-Americans-majority-Republicans-want-Obama-impeached.html

I do stand corrected, the number there of all non Republicans in favor of impeachment is listed there as 26% not the 27% I found from another source.

Perhaps there was some rounding error involved.

It looks like the breakdown is

22 % of population identifies as Republican and is in favor of impeachment

26% of the population which identifies as Democrat or Independent is in favor of impeachment

21% of the population Republican, Democrat or Independent is undecided on whether the President should be impeached Very interesting numbers

Interestingly enough for comparison, during the Clinton impeachment in the 90’s the percentage of Americans who were in favor of impeaching Bill Clinton never went over 30% and hovered at around 27% .

The majority of Americans were in favor of Censure

With George Bush there was a hard core of Democrats in favor of his impeachment that totaled about 30% . The total number of Americans that supported him and were not in favor of impeachment was on the order of 60%

So in the case of Bill Clinton, only a very small percentage of Americans wanted to see Clinton impeached and the majority wanted to see him sanctioned or censured.

With George Bush, a huge majority of Americans may not approved of his job performance but were totally opposed to impeachment. In that light, Obama's numbers on impeachment are very ominous for him.

If the house had done it right Clinton’s numbers wouldn’t have gone up because the media wouldn’t have had time to push the “It’s just about sex” crap. The house was supposed to deliver the articles to the senate “by noon the following day”. It ended up taking about two months before the fake trial started. By then the sheeple had been led into the “not guilty” category.

I faxed Delay about this and never heard from him. And I lived in his district at the time.

Thanks, the Daily Mail is generally trustworthy (though Palin is not “far-right”).

The numbers added up to 39.44% for impeachment, still too low considering that Hussein isn’t exaclty subtle.

Your numbers may be better for the percentage of the population in favor of impeachment. I had no idea how many Americans have disaffiliated with either party and were now listed as independent. The 21% of the population sitting on the fence undecided is a good number. That still gives 60% of the population either in favor or undecided regarding the impeachment of the President of the United States. which is pretty astounding, especially since we are just beggining to unravel the many scandals of this administration
