Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation.
Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis.
The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the IDF intensified its strikes against Hamas targets including the homes of some of its top commanders it became clear to the movements leaders that Israel means business.
On Tuesday night, Hamas spokesmen were sending distress signals to various parties. The organization is concerned that if the IDF operation continues for another few days, the movement will pay a very heavy price one that could even bring about an end to Hamass rule over the Gaza Strip.
Hamas accused Israel of crossing all the redlines by bombing the homes of its military commanders. This shows that Hamas did not expect Israel to take such a drastic move. Less than 24 hours after the beginning of the IDF offensive, Hamas talked about the need to return to the truce that was reached with Israel in 2012.
A spokesman for Hamass armed wing, Izzadin Kassam, listed this demand as part of his movements effort to end the current confrontation. The spokesman called for an end to the IDF crackdown on Hamas members in the West Bank, which began after the abduction and murder of three Israeli youths last month.
On Tuesday night, Hamas and other Palestinian groups appealed to Egypt and Arab countries to intervene to stop the IDF operation. Given Hamass bad relations with the Egyptian authorities, its unlikely that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi would rush to save the movement that is openly aligned with his enemy, the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Palestinian Authority, which has condemned the Israeli aggression, is also unlikely to make a big effort to save Hamas from destruction. In fact, President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah faction would be happy to see Hamas severely defeated.
Hamas is beginning to feel the heat and thats why its leaders, who have gone into hiding, are seeking an honorable way out of the confrontation, which, they say, they didnt want to begin with.
“Hamas accused Israel of crossing all the redlines by bombing the homes of its military commanders.”
Boo frackin hoo.
Typical Arabs and Mooslims.
Attack first, then retreat as a victim.
Rinse, repeat....
They want everyone to martyr themselves for the cause . . . Just not themselves. . .
No. They did not want a confrontation. They thought they had a right to a free shoot. Then those damn joos started shooting back. How inhumane!
If Hamas' leadership survives intact, they will consider they have won. Israel needs to not stop until the leadership are all dead, or at least 75%+ are. That's the only thing that will make an impression.
0bama called Netanyahu and told him that he would be willing to broker peace talks between Israel and Hamas.”
Would that be before or after he takes his two week vacation to Martha’s Vineyard?
“Shock and Awe” Israeli style.
I think they're trying to demonstrate their relevance, in order to drum up new funding.
Tit for tat response prolongs war. It’s long past time for an aggrieved party to respond with overwhelming and relentless counter fire. The US wouldn’t have have its “ties” on the books if it still responded as it did in WW2
Rats are on the wrong side of every conflict and every issue - 100% wrong, 100% of the time.
I wish we had a Bibi POTUS!
A mighty blow by its very nature carries it own defense along with it. Hunt them down, kick in the door, shoot them in bed, and bury them with pigs.
Watching the new movie ‘America’ reminded me that Obambi, Holder, both Clintoons, most prominent DemoRats have always been aligned with nasty, subhuman garbage who terrorize. Thank God that Obambi was not successful in Egypt, that his Muzzie Brotherhood compatriots failed to turn Egypt into another terrorist camp. Hamas has 100’s of long-range rockets because the Muslim Brotherhood armed Hamas. The Egyptian General that had the cojones to take on the Muslim Brotherhood should go down in history as a true man of courage. Returning to the subject of Obambi, Ayers kills people, Holder helped the Clintoons free terrorists from Puerto Rico, Holder represented Guantanamo terrorists that hate America. Thank God America will be strong enough to overcome this anti-American creepozoid in the Oval office.

YeeHAAA!! Go, Israel!
LOL, where were Hamas’ missiles aimed?
Then said He unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. ~Luke 22:36
Who supplied the Muslim Brohood?
> Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis.
Forced by Hamas’ kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers, one of whom was a US citizen.
