Poll: Brown trails by double digits (NH)

New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen has a 12-percentage-point lead over Republican challenger Scott Brown, according to a new poll.

The WMUR Granite State/University of New Hampshire poll released Wednesday evening shows Shaheen tops Brown 52 percent to 40 percent. In April, she led Brown by 6 percentage points.

Within minutes of the poll’s release, the Brown campaign sent out a memo downplaying the findings and outlining the Republican’s strategy: “Consolidate the Republican base and split the independent vote.”

The campaign said polls won’t mean much until Republicans choose their nominee on Sept. 9. “In 2014, the Senate race in New Hampshire won’t really begin until the day after the September 9 primary,” the Brown memo said. “That’s when Republicans across the state will rally behind their nominee to defeat Jeanne Shaheen.”

Brown, a former Massachusetts senator and Fox News contributor, is widely expected to win the primary.

The WMUR poll found strong numbers for Shaheen, with 57 percent of respondents saying they have a favorable opinion of her, compared with 29 percent who have an unfavorable opinion. While Brown’s favorability numbers have improved 2 points since April, he still has a 40 percent unfavorability rating, contrasted with a 31 percent favorability rating.

But by God, the Establishment will get him nominated!

Why is it we never hear about Brown "he can't win, let's get behind somebody else"?

I think we all know the answer. Because they'd rather lose with Brown than win with anybody else.

When it comes to voting for the Democrat or a poseur, the Democrat will get the vote. The GOPe will never understand this.

In NH no less.

What? He's running for office in New Hampshire now?

What's he going to do? Run for every office in every state in the northeast until he finds one whose citizens can stomach him?

He is the weakest possible (R) candidate, selected to make republicans stay home and give the victory to (D).

But they keep doing the same thing expecting different results...which sounds IS crazy.

Observed this when we lived in CT and watch Romney debate Ted Kennedy. His entire campaign was that he could "out-liberal" Ted Kennedy. Ergo, I knew Obama was going to be re-selected when Romney got the nomination.

We have one party with two branches, dem. and rep.

Their common enemy is the TEA party. They are playing “good cop, bad cop” with us. Once you accept that paradigm, it is easy to spot in everything the GOPe does.

Post of the day. it is Democrats AND Republicans vs. conservatives and the 'Tea Party'. Period.

Corrupt soviet Red Hampshire is NO FRIEND to conservatives...their 'open primary' allows DEMOCRATS to cross over and vote for the WEAKEST GOP candidate, insuring a democrat victory in the general. This has been a political strategy for YEARS.

Boycott this rotten state.

WAAAAIIIIIIIITTTTTT! Something very fishy here! Brown is the squishy, liberal RINO that “everyone” tells us we need in order to win.

How is it possible that he is getting thrashed? It’s almost as if the MSM is setting us up!

I’m not going to believe the Chris Matthews and Bob Beckels and Alan Colmes, and James Carvilles etc. anymore when they tell us what the gop needs to do to win!

I'm thinking the RINOs have total control over what used to be the NH Republican Party, and use that to set the tone in that early primary. Scott Brown is just plain awful. When he got to DC he compromised (sold out) on everything, believed in nothing. Good for NH doing what we all have to do....defeat the RINO backstabber if that's what the ptb choose as a candidate.

NH voted for Ayotte when in the campaign she talked the talk of a constitutional conservative. She traitored her NH voters before she even had time to unpack in DC.

Brown is not a “viable” candidate. He was a one-hit wonder and was in the right place at the right time.

No...it doesn’t. Red Hampshire, with its corrupted primary system, sets the table for the establishment candidates.

I don’t believe this poll for a second..it obviously hasn’t factored in the awesome Romney endorsement!

Precisely WHY my family didn't vote for her in the first place...we KNEW what we would be getting. Look how she cozies up to McCain and Graham.

I call the GOP-e “apology candidates.” They spend their entire time apologizing for being Republican, apologizing to the media, apologizing for this, being timid about that. That is why the “war on women” meme gets so much traction. Not many, if any, GOP-e candidates have the guts to say, “that is stupid and I refuse to even acknowledge such stupidity while larger issues have this country burning to the ground.” Oh no, instead we get the apology tour that gives credibility to the “war on women” as if it were real. They lack courage to look into the camera, stick their chin out and say, “here is what I believe, here is why I believe it, and if you don’t like it, tough.”

Scott Brown is the ultimate apology candidate. He will spend his entire campaign on the defensive instead of attack, attack, attacking the myriad of weaknesses the democrats have. Oh no, instead we will get a never ending chorus of democrat lite songs.

He had a radio ad when he opposed Dizzie Miss Lizzie in which he opposed “violence against women.” I suppose that makes him ignorant to the fact that there is violence against men or perhaps he doesn’t care and was desperate for the female vote. Liberal women generally only care about violence against women as we know but Mr. Brown apparently agrees with them.
