What the hell are they going to do? Lasso the Homeland Security guys? Put the children in pig pens? The Feds are in control and Perry can’t really do a thing.

The Feds are into Texas and Arizona already for millions.

This is one of those Obama jokes..."I can get $4 bill from Congress...how much can you get?"

AFIK - the governor has the power to call up the national guard.

my take - Perry is deflecting.

Remember the last time the guard went to the border? All they were allowed to do was work on the vehicles of the border patrol and some paperwork. That’s what will happen again if they force Blam into doing it.

Yes, a gov can call out the guard, but that state has to pay all of the cost.

So, the border govs want the prez to call out the guard because the feds pay half the cost and the states from which the guard is called up have to pay the other half.

When Bush called the guard, many governors from other states complained that they were having to pay for something that the border states should be paying for.

Also, guardsmen are willing to militarily serve but are not willing to leave their family and job/career/pay to chase illegals around the Arizona desert.

There is an underlying problem here.

The cost of illegal immigration falls disproportionally on the border states and the federal govt/Congress should be picking up the tab. These are HEW costs and criminal justice costs

But, historically, Congress has always shirked their duties, forcing these costs onto the border states. That is because the members of Congress from others states don't want to pay for it, so they always vote it down.

The border is a Federal matter.

Leave the Federal border open, but install a Texas border fence. Fences are big business in Texas. We could put up our own adequate fence in no time at all. Just take a look around Texas. Thousands of miles of fence exist and there are hundreds of fence companies.

GWB was absolutely despicable for not building the wall - especially after the 9-11 attacks.

La Raza Rick Perry opposes a border wall and wouldn't build one either. Pro-ILLEGAL alien governors never will.

I agree with you that it isn’t the money - it is Perry’s lack of the gonads to do something that wouldn’t necessarily be cheered in many other states. He’s still running for President, and is afraid to take stands that are too controversial...and, as a result, often fails to do the right thing and ALWAYS looks indecisive.

‘Federal troops aren’t allowed to be deployed in the U.S.’ The Democrat Congress changed that via a bill...and ‘posse comitatus’ in theory no longer exists.

Go to Wikepedia for the latest changes to Posse Comitatus and see the bill Obama signed in 2011.
