Union contract, does that answer any questions. They are shafting them on health care and pay.
Memphis if VERY HIGH CRIME and any LEO deserves combat pay.
Memphis is total demrat controlled.
They are gutting all pensions except the ruling elite, and shoveling the money into social programs.
It is good to see that the unionistas are getting effected by things. Ha ha.
I did not single out anyone. My comment was of a general nature.
Okay, let's assume that you weren't accusing me of some sort of prejudice against cops. The "players" are the taxpayer and the cops. The taxpayers are getting soaked by the public employees known as cops. The taxpayers are asked to pay more with less due the economic situation. Why should the cops be exempt from the economic situation?
And, I don't get the tie-in to Obamacare.
Skyrocketing insurance premiums.
Why should the cops be excoriated for pushing back (if that is what this is)? Sounds like resistance to me and I thought that is what conservative activists are calling for.

Because like all public employee negotiations the ones paying the bill (the taxpayer) aren't even invited to the table.
"Resistance"? Resistance to what? Having to pay a little bit more for their insurance? AGAIN, why should they be exempt from the realities of economics? The cost of everything is going up. Why should a unionized group of public employees be exempt?

Really? Is that how you see it? I see it as the cops, who are paid by the taxpayer, not wanting to pay their share of the costs.
BTW, what about public safety, which they purportedly swear to uphold? Should we condone their jeopardizing that in the name of a demand for exemption from economic reality?
Because they can; or at least they can try. You are trying to put words in my mouth. I posted the thread because I find any push back against the economic vise to be of interest.
The merits of public sector unions is a separate discussion.
But, the public sector union, cops included, are a part of the vise. Right?
Sure it is. The center cannot hold and the thing is collapsing from its own weight.
Again, I am seeing cracks in their base and that is what of interest in this situation.
Not denigrating either of you, but your exchange reminds me of a story I read decades ago about a cowboy making his way across a hilly range:
He hears a gunshot and a ricochet, assumes he’s being robbed, takes cover and returns fire. The exchange of fire lasts over an hour until eventually the shots cease. Finally, one yells out at the other, “You ain’t gonna take me without a fight!” The other hollers, “Take YOU, I thought you were after ME.”
After a brief exchange, they both agree to come out of the shadows. They meet, laugh and shake hands, sharing some whiskey over the other’s campfire.
You see, it turns out the cowboy that fired the first shot was shooting a snake. After the last shot, both were out of ammo but, oddly, neither retreated. Luckily no one else came along that night...
There’s a moral in there somewhere. You both have excellent points.

I’m near Little Rock, AR (Memphis-lite). I know how you feel. The natives are restless. Luckily we have CCW and pro-gun AG and procs.
You pegged it. This not only effects LEO, but all former retired city workers. We have a friend who worked in the upper levels of water dept. He is retired now, and he will go 4 months NO health ins. And when he does get 0’care it will cost an arm and a leg as his wife is a diabetic. Who will be a retired music teacher in Aug. So neither will have health ins. They aren’t rich by any means. Just average.
Nice story. Exchange did not feel like a gunfight to me. Just two folks coming at a thing from different directions and seeing things in a different light. You'll have that.

Actually, it doesn't matter how wealthy you are - to some bureaucrat in some government office of making you sad, you're "the rich".
The analogy wasn’t the gunfight, though the reference to libs was intentional.
City trying to recover from too much spending and is cutting back on paying their insurance premiums. They are finding out what is happening to everyone outside the public sector.
