The Republican Party has entered a new era of sectarian civil wars on multiple issues that bitterly divide and dangerously threaten the GOP through the 2016 elections and beyond.
These intensely emotional and ideological issues create deep fissures in the tectonic plate of Republican politics, pitting warring GOP factions against each other and creating powerful strategic advantages for Democrats.
A reverse realignment, which is possible for Democrats in 2016, would be achieved by subtraction if a smaller-tent GOP implodes from within while driving swing voters and demographic wave voters to Democrats.

"Budowsky was an aide to former Sen. Lloyd Bentsen (D) and Bill Alexander (D), then chief deputy majority whip of the House. He holds an LL.M. degree in international financial law from the London School of Economics."
I am surprised they wrote and published this article, because it outlines the Dem strategy: fuel the feud among the different factions of GOP and conservatives to help a Dem win. The Dems usually don't admit this.
Highly recommend reading the article and giving it serious thought -- ask yourselves who really benefits from the in-fighting, it's the Dems.
What the author does not understand is that driving out a group can easily cause the attraction of another disaffected group. Dumping the Mitt Romney-Nelson Rockefeller-Bush family Republicans makes an opening for pro-gun, pro-life Democrats that are just turned off by what they perceive as the Plutocratic face of the Republican party. When the expelled Demons wander in the deserts to, looking for a new home, some Dems will take the bait (money), and cause the same internal divisions inside the Dem party as they become the crony socialist-party with the crony-capitalist face.
Your analysis presumes there are two parties in DC that are not bought and paid for by the same entities. Big mistake.
But the Dems aways unite in the general election — you don’t see Dem factions feuding and staying home, which is quite usual for GOP and conservative voters.
That’s how Dems get elected in the first place — GOP division results in just enough GOP voters staying home or voting third party to allow the Dems to win.
That’s how Obama got elected twice and that’s how the GOP didn’t capture the Senate the last time and may not do it this time.
The Republican party has a “tectonic plate”? Who knew?
Absolutely right, Hostage.
“Your analysis presumes there are two parties in DC that are not bought and paid for by the same entities. Big mistake.”
This is another planted Dem talking point.
Are you really saying that you can’t see a difference between Obama and the GOP — even the liberal wing of the GOP?
You’re right. Lobbyists donate to BOTH parties.
Good post.
“Highly recommend reading the article and giving it serious thought — ask yourselves who really benefits from the in-fighting, it’s the Dems.”
Please clarify your comment. RINOs stand for Big G’ment, crony capitalism, saem as the DemRats why vote for these low life RINO scum?
“But the Dems aways unite in the general election you dont see Dem factions feuding and staying home, which is quite usual for GOP and conservative voters.”
DUDE, you are so wrong - remember the Blue Dog democrats who voted for Ron Reagen?
I vote FOR the person who shares my view of the world. I no longer vote for the lesser of two evils
Shill somewhere else!
You are telling me that, after calling the very voters he pretended to represent racist, those voters should voter for Thad Cochran after he promised Democrats that he would vote like a Democrat in the Senate? You are telling me that, after the few constituents who could actually speak with Eric Cantor expressed their strong opposition to amnesty and Cantor still supported amnesty (with plans to implement it in a lame duck session if necessary), those people should have still voted for Cantor?
YOU are supporting the Democratic plan here! You’re right, the Democrats don’t normally tell you what they are going to do in advance. So what kind of MORON would believe an article purporting to do so? The greatest threat to Democrats is a strong conservative opposition, one that might create a coalition of Reagan Democrats and economic conservatives that join with social conservatives. They WANT a party run by the GOPe... that leads to Democrat election victories where it counts. The average non-competitive races (thanks to gerrymandering) simply reflect the ideology of those that win the primary... which is why the Dems and GOPe are so afraid of the rise of conservative primary challengers. The Dems can get what they want from Thad Cochran, but not from Chris McDaniel.
The VA 7th will elect a Republican (unless, of course, the GOPe doesn’t rally behind Brat. Funny how conservatives are always expected to support the GOPe, but they never have to support us). If the GOPe is so desperate for “party unity,” then they can show us by throwing all of their support behind Dave Brat. To you and the GOPe I say “Prove it! You first!” Because I know they won’t... making this entire premise a load of crap...
You completely nailed it.
Because conservatives are not sheep.
Why would we vote for the Republican that has pretty much the same goals as the Democrat?
You're completely missing the point.
So we should unite behind Thad Cochran then? After all, we should ignore what Barbour's machine has done to the base and we need to unite behind the RINO, correct?
Are you really saying that you cant see a difference between Obama and the GOP even the liberal wing of the GOP?
Has Obamacare been defunded? Impeachment proceedings brought against Obama? Didn't think so.
I'll take that question.
McConnell and Boehner in both words and deeds have surrendered.
Sure there is a difference.
The Dems are working to destroy the country and the RINOS are surrendering.
But, having said that, you also have to recognize that the leftwing turned out big for Obama in 2012 even though the left was not pleased with Obama's first term.
It's time for the entrenched appartchiks of the RINO party to step aside.
Highly recommend reading the article and giving it serious thought -- ask yourselves who really benefits from the in-fighting, it's the Dems.
Indeed. And I'll leave it at that.
Jesus Christ: You cant impeach Him and He aint going to resign.
