GOP Rep. Bill Cassidy, who is challenging Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) in one of this years most competitive Senate races, revealed late Thursday that his 17-year-old daughter became pregnant out of wedlock and is due later this summer.
Cassidys campaign revealed the news with a one-paragraph statement to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, published late Thursday afternoon as the July Fourth holiday weekend began.
Earlier this year, Laura and I learned we will become grandparents this summer, Cassidy, 56, said in the statement. Our children have been the greatest blessing of our lives and we welcome our grandchild as a joyous addition to our family. Our daughter now faces a more challenging future than her peers. She has our unconditional love and support.
His daughter is a rising senior at a high school in Baton Rouge.

A Progressive announcement would be different: “We wish to announce that our daughter is pregnant and is taking this wonderful opportunity to have a free abortion. Join us in celebration on July 13!”
His daughter took an anti-abortion stance and chose life over death. If liberal wackos choose to pick on her, they must chose death over life in their argument. Let them make fools of themselves. God bless her.
Yep, that thread on Sarah and her daughter, was disgusting.
The poster you mention, was clearly unhinged over this and her accusations of Bristol were laughable! I chose to stay clear of it, there was no reasoning with that mind set.
My real last name means “Son of a Friar”
That is about as illegitimate as they come.
Besides, his duaghter isn;t running for office.
The term was entirely new to me when I moved to Atlanta nearly 20 years ago. In 40 years of living in the upper Midwest, I had never heard the phrase. Seems to make little sense in that, if you are 2/3rds of the way to graduation, you are rising in the sense of continuing toward completion of HS, but what else would you be, “sinking”? In my time not completing HS was unheard of (I recall 3 in my class of 417 dropped out.) I suppose when dropout rates are in the vicinity of 45% in choice school systems like Atlanta, the distinction is necessary. Sigh.
Yes, I realized that after a while. I’ve had discussions with leftists who are stuck in that kind of reasoning. Eventually I sense they’re playing a mind game then I move on.
May God bless this family.
Can you name a liberal pro-abortion politician whose daughter had a child out of wedlock?
Hmmm....?
Well, he will probably win with the Democrat cross over vote...now he stands for what they stand for. What a joke that this even comes up in this day and age. We’ve got people who are trannies running for congress and no one bats an eye, but this is supposed to be important?
Kinda funny how that first child is always premature. Our oldest daughter was a few months early.
And how many other teenaged daughters have become pregnant out of wedlock? It’s happened millions of times and will continue as long as there are male and females. This is not news and doesn’t deserve the time of day except for the immediate families.
Thanks for explaining that, I was wondering about it too. Is that a regional expression? I’ve never heard it before.
As Andrew Breitbart would say... “SO?”
Why does Politico think it’s important to the political race?
I apologize in advance, but it may have been a “rising senior” who got her pregnant.

I know the expression rising senior or rising junior is used in New England. I am from North Dakota and don’t recall the term.
Hope baby and Mom are healthy and happy.
Every life has a purpose, no matter how it’s created.
Tacky! Smokin' Joe.
