Hope that in the future, all is well, everyone eats free, no one must work, all just sit around feeling love for one another. George Saunders
Believe it or not, the above statement is printed on the bag issued by the Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants.
Saunders, a fiction writer who teaches at Syracuse University, has been converted to Buddhism and has adopted an anti-consumer, anti-corporate-culture and anti-capitalist philosophy.
Its a sad commentary when a major consumer corporation buys into his hippie-style philosophy and encourages people to live off of others and to adopt the welfare, no-workfare mentality.
Food, like any valuable good or service, is not free its a scarce product that requires a great deal of work and effort.
Perhaps the Protestant Ethic of hard work, thrift and integrity are virtues of a past era in America.
Perhaps this quote from Professor Saunders best sums up his tragic philosophy that will no doubt, if followed, lead us into a road to serfdom, Dont be afraid to be confused. Try to remain permanently confused.
Was a leftist meme that a CEO should make no more than 5 times the lowest paid worker. Haven’t heard it in a while. Certainly it’s an idea unspoiled by success.
I like the burritos.
However I prefer a little hole in the wall where mama is cooking and there’s a statue of the Sacred Heart in the kitchen. Oh, and flour tortilla chips.
You don’t wait for a check. When you’re ready you go up to the cash register.
For anyone who is unaware Chipolte’s is owned by McDonald’s.
The one up the street from us is actually pretty good, but if this is their corporate politics I don’t know if I would bother to patronize them any more.
Never knew anything about their politics until this. Just bad word of mouth reports from people I trust about the poor quality of their food.
He’s free to be as foolish as he wants. Whether that will work out well... another question. In the end it won’t.
Men’s philosophies fall short of God’s glory. The Lord has ordained a strange (to us) regime of both gifts AND work. But when we go along with it, we find the gifts are greater than the work. Humanity fell and got itself off on a wrong footing.
Anyhow when feeling love transitions into doing love, then we are closer to God.
That’s going to end up limiting how many people that CEO will end up hiring, directly or indirectly.
It's hypocrisy for the sake of profit. It's the same dishonest game that limousine liberals play.
The main thing for me.....Chipotle is NOT Mexican food. It is an American version. I like real Mexican food, not Americanized or Tex Mex, etc. Real Mexican food.
I guess I like good food made from good ingredients, regardless of the culture. I like the authentic little hole-in-the-wall Mexican and Oriental places too. And a good steak. I like pretty much anything if it’s well prepared.
“For anyone who is unaware Chipoltes is owned by McDonalds.”
I was completely unaware of that fact and must have been mislead by the Wall Street Journal several years back when the WSJ reported that Chipolte had an IPO and their stock price soared.
It is not only sad, but an indictment on our media when even the Wall Street Journal falsely reports that Chipolte as an independent company goes public and has an IPO.
The WSJ has always been more leftist than the NY Times except for the editorial page where it leans open-borders libertarian.
Has the WSJ run any editorials about this border invasion? Probably gives them goose-bumps
Personally, I love the food at chipotle.
But wouldn’t it be absolutely delightful if bus load after bus load of non paying customers all holding chipotle bags promising free stuff were dropped off at the restaurants across the country?
Just another place I never patronize that I never will.
The list of chain stores to eat at is getting awfully small.
Conservatives don’t have the guts to boycott but if they did decide to inconvenience themselves they might be surprised at the outcome.
Nice guys finish last. That seems to be more true now than ever.
Woo hoo! Lunch is on Chipotle, everybody!
Nope Chipolte used to be owned by McDonalds. They sold all their stock, it’s now back independent, like it was before being acquired my McD.
I doubt they’d get something that glaring wrong. It probably was independent, then subsequently acquired by McDonalds. Why would you assume that wasn’t the case?
The wife and I figured we had to at least try a meal at Chipotle last time we were in Boise, the big city to us.
We finished and shrugged our shoulders and said, ‘don’t get it, why the hype and why is this place so popular??’
Food was nothing special; atmosphere is non-existent; long wait to place order after standing in line forever; noisy dining area...had to wait for a table and a puzzle as to why it is popular at all.
Will never return.
10 to 1, he preaches Buddhism and teaches fiction. (lies?)
I don’t know of their politics but if you have a Qdoba nearby it’s basically the same food.
