Everyone assumes that Republicans will easily hold the House in November. The dominant storyline among the chattering classes centers instead on the possibility that Republicans could seize control of the Senate from Democrats. But the rapidly escalating immigration face-off between President Barack Obama and House Republicans raises the possibility that Democrats could win back the House — even if Republicans do take the Senate
How is that possible? It's simple: There are more competitive House races than Senate races in areas with significant Latino populations.
Last year, David Damore, a polling analyst for the firm Latino Decisions, found that there are 44 congressional districts with Republican incumbents that could be ousted if their Latino constituents flex their electoral muscle.
That may not seem like a lot for a body with 435 representatives. But Democrats only need to flip 17 seats to take over the House. While most observers see that as a bridge too far for Democrats this year, the political terrain in these Latino-strong districts may look different in the fall. Just as we head into the midterms' final two-month sprint, Obama will likely have followed through on this week's pledge to use executive orders to help keep immigrant families together in America.
Obama can't fix the entire immigration system by fiat. He can't unilaterally bestow citizenship on the undocumented. He can't even ensure his executive orders will stay on the books once he vacates the Oval Office in 2017. There will still be a need for Congress to act. And immigration advocates may well turn all their fire on obstructionist House Republicans once Obama has shown he has done all he can without them.

Obama is getting checked and balanced. He needs to stop whining and work with the House. His inability to work with people he does not agree with is one of his major flaws....amongst many flaws.
By the way, Obama likes to compare himself to Lincoln...a man going against the evil tide of humanity. The problem is, Lincoln actually was going against the evil tide of humanity. Obama is just going against a congress who hates Obamacare and wants the budget responsibly balanced...hardly the stuff of tyranny...as I’m certain Obama sees it.

Just anecdotal evidence, but I have worked with a number of legal Mexican Americans, who are working in maintenance and housekeeping type jobs.
Every single one of them is against illegal immigration, or granting amnesty. They see companies paying people under the table, and breaking other laws, to accomodate illegal workers, and they are very much against that.
It’s really over simplifying the issue, and somewhat bigoted in my opinion, to just assume that Hispanics welcome all this illegal immigration, and favor amnensty, and favor Democrats and liberalism when they go to vote.

I disagree. It has angered some Americans. I like in CA and while I too have found some anecdotal evidence that Latinos are none too fond of illegal immigration, they loathe the GOP and will turn out to vote for Dims in droves. The GOP is DOA here because of that voting block.
Just because they don’t like it doesn’t mean it turns into a vote for us. What did ODmwit get last election ... 75% of the Latino vote?

People are being too dismissive of this. The Spanish-language media depicts opposition to immigration reform as anti-Latino bias, full stop, and the adoption of amnesty as a key way for Latinos to flex their muscles. That amnesty might personally hurt them is disregarded.
Huh? consequences? LOL. Obama and the evil GOPe is laughing as they literally destroy our Republic.
By the time Obama's is out of office we likely will have another 20M third world anti-English, anti-American third world criminals illegal cross our borders.
Once they bring friends and families over, its another 100M.
If this illegal invasion is not physically stopped very soon it will truly be checkmate for our Republic.
Our Republic will forever be destroyed -- we cannot survive 140M third worlders being among us who have no sense of our culture, our language or our history.
