Claiming that the uncompromising nature of new conservative politicians and their actions, like the 2013 federal government shutdown, are personally distressing and internationally damaging, Hillary Clinton said that Americans should not be supporting and funding organizations that take that kind of view.
Without mentioning names or groups, Clinton in a C-SPAN interview airing Saturday at 7 p.m. ET was clearly attacking the Tea Party and their Senate leaders like Texas Sen. Ted Cruz by mentioning the Cruz-led shutdown and the uncompromising positions several conservatives, even House Speaker John Boehner, have taken on key issues.
We have to make sure we elect people who believe in compromise, she told C-SPANs Steve Scully during an interview taped in Little Rock, Arkansas. The interview was part of Clintons tour to promote her new memoir, Hard Choices.
Halfway into his interview, Scully asked her about relations between the White House and Congress and she unloaded on conservatives.
After slapping the government shutdown, she rapped candidates and elected officials in Washington who wont compromise. There are a lot of candidates, even some elected officials, who proudly say they'll never compromise; they have the truth. Now Im a person of faith, but I dont think any human being has the truth, she said in excerpts provided to Secrets.
Then she called for a boycott of conservative politicians and groups presumably like the Tea Party, which has advocated against compromise with Democrats on several issues.
Now first, citizens should not be endorsing those kinds of views. You can be very conservative, but you know that in a democracy, in the give and take of a legislative process, no person is going to get everything he or she wants. Secondly, people should not be funding campaigns or organizations that take that kind of views, she said on C-SPANs Book TV.
Then Clinton added: Because its not just this president, its going to be any president who has a responsibility to the overall population of our country and to be put in a position where you cant cooperate because people are uncompromising and they are being funded to be uncompromising is dangerous to our democracy.
While she expressed respect for those who stand for "matters of great principle," Clinton added that "a lot of these debates are not matters of great principle. They are political arguments designed to gain advantage; not just against the other party or president of another party, but really against large segments of the American people who have a different point of view."
Again, without mentioning names, she slapped Mississippi Sen. Chris McDaniels primary challenge to Sen. Thad Cochran, and complimented Cochran on expanding his support in the recent runoff to beat his Tea Party foe. Conservatives charge that Cochran schemed with Democrats to beat McDaniel.
So there you have it, Its all about both parties advancing the leftwing agenda
