Franklin didn’t think it could last that long either.
The Constitution and Bill of Rights were made for a moral people and are inadequate for anything else.

The Constitution and Bill of Rights were made for a moral people and are inadequate for anything else.Liberty must be born in the hearts of men first. The laws provide a framework through which this liberty can operate, but it doesn't place freedom in the hearts of men.

They did. And they put checks and balances in place to try to prevent a king.
- An elected Congress with power to impeach (made impotent by career politicians who's loyalty is to power and party and not to the country.)
- A press with second amendment rights. (Made impotent by ownership being concentrated in two few hands and foreign ownership of the press).
- A separate judicial branch with the power to interpret law, determine constitutionality, order discovery, and apply these to individual cases. (Made impotent by the stacking of the SCOTUS with liberals, and precedents that prevent too many people from having standing).
- A military for national defense, separate from domestic police. (Made impotent by Homeland security and various national police forces.)
