President Obama urged Israeli leaders not to “destabilize the situation” following the discovery of the bodies of three teenagers, including one American citizen, who were kidnapped by Hamas, according to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“As a father, I cannot imagine the indescribable pain that the parents of these teenage boys are experiencing,” Obama said in a prepared statement. “From the outset, I have offered our full support to Israel and the Palestinian Authority to find the perpetrators of this crime and bring them to justice, and I encourage Israel and the Palestinian Authority to continue working together in that effort. I also urge all parties to refrain from steps that could further destabilize the situation..."
Netanyahu vowed retribution for Hamas, whom he blamed for the murders. “Hamas is responsible, and Hamas will pay,” Netanyahu said, per Haaretz.
A Hamas leader praised the kidnappers last week but would “neither confirm nor deny” that his organization was responsible. “Blessed be the hands that captured them,” Hamas’s Khalad Mashaal said, according to the Times of Israel.

I never understand this. Israel is just supposed to roll over and accept continual terror attacks and crimes against humanity such as this, but not retaliate. Per Obama, retaliation is an unacceptable response, and retaliation is the action which destabilizes the region, not the original terrorist attack. How does this make sense?

And why the hell is it Israel’s responsibility to not escalate the situation when her citizens, and ours mind you, are murdered, and they have rockets raining down on their cities?
Only antisemitic bigots would think a stable situation in which terrorists murder innocent civilians is worth preserving. The whole point of striking back with overwhelming force against terrorists, terrorist training camps, and those who fund terrorists is to destabilize an unacceptable situation and move toward a more civilized equilibrium. There is no acceptable nonzero rate of rocket and mortar attacks, kidnappings, murders, and suicide bombings at which decent people want to keep the situation stable.

I think Israel could do a lot to stabilize things by driving the entire population of Gaza into the Med or the Sinai and annexing it.
