Both parents of a toddler who died in an unattended SUV in suburban Atlanta told investigators they did online research on how hot it needs to be for a child to die in an unattended vehicle, police said.
Justin Ross Harris, 33, faces murder charges in the death of his son, 22-month-old Cooper on June 18. While he had previously allegedly admitted to researching the subject, investigators now say Leanna Harris also went on line to learn about kids dying in hot cars. She has not been charged, but the revelation came on a search warrant released Sunday, which said she claimed she researched the subject because she was afraid it could happen.
Police say Cooper died after being left in the backseat of an SUV.

I always think a majority of children left to die in cars during the summer are killed on purpose.

It seems that a lot of children die in house fires, as well, while the adults seem to make it out of the place. I cannot imagine escaping a fire and not trying to go back in to get my children.
The same people who forgot their children in a car would never forget their cell phone.

Yep. And I am so incensed by the “forgot to drop him at daycare” defense. But maybe when you drop your child off to be cared for by strangers it’s not much different for you than dropping off a bag of laundry.
I think you're right.
Some are purposely left in the car by their parents.
Others are left to die by unfeeling Liberals, who have forced parents to keep their children hidden out of their sight, in the back seat.
You cant leave a kid (or a pet) in a car....

I love my dog, but that is just silly. A dog is not a child. We take our dog with us as much as possible because he just seems to be happier waiting for us in the car than he is waiting at home. But he stays in the car all by himself while we are in a store, a restaurant, etc.
Agree!
I don’t know about anyone else but my FB timeline had several stories about dogs and children left in hot cars this past month. I am sure if you look at my history I googled around to research this more. Oh and someone posted this interesting article about kids left in cars. Might help explain what happens to the brain to enable someone to accidentally leave their child in a hot car all day. “Fatal Distraction” http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/fatal-distraction-forgetting-a-child-in-thebackseat-of-a-car-is-a-horrifying-mistake-is-it-a-crime/2014/06/16/8ae0fe3a-f580-11e3-a3a5-42be35962a52_stor
Well, I suppose you can leave a dog in a car by himself for a short time, I would not leave my kid there though. A dog can, to a certain extent, take care of himself. A small child cannot.
When I read those stories, I always try to give the adults the benefit of the doubt by thinking that maybe they couldn’t get to the child’s room because the fire was blocking their access, so they ran outside to try to get to the children through a window. That’s not true in all cases, I’m sure, but that probably is true in many cases.
If it was deliberate, as it appears to be, he or both were undoubtedly hoping it would look like an accident, while giving up the child for adoption would strongly imply they were bad parents (and "look bad").
I just don't trust that the news media have reported the whole story yet.
But I'm going to get my jump to conclusions mat out, just in case.
Bingo!
Both parents searched the internet for how long it takes a child to fry in a car, they say they searched because they were so worried it could happen to their son; the mother stated at the funeral the child is better off dead, she would not bring him back to this messed up world...then she said her husband was the best dad and will be the best dad to their next/other children someday. I am paraphrasing like crazy but bottom line 1) you’re both so freaking paranoid your son is going to fry in the car, yet, you can’t remember he is in your car 2) if it is such a horrible world, why would you even consider having another child someday? 3) mom, get a grip..your husband left your precious baby boy in his oven like car while he went on into his air conditioned office, came back to the car during the day, car all hot as hell, turned around and went back to the office. No clue baby is in the car, much less dead.
The internet searches, the crazy eulogy by mom...with dad on the phone speaking incoherently. The beautiful little baby that died a tortuous death.
I don’t buy their b.s. and pray to God they never bring another child into THEIR messed up world.
Not a fan of these parents.

I have a 5 yr old niece. Her car seat is big enough of a contraption that its hard to ignore a child in it even a baby. A look in the front view mirror and one sees the car seat even getting out of a car.
Dig a little deeper in parents lives who’ve done this and one might find life insurance on the child, a history of psych issues in the parents or just plain evil parents.
You might just be right.
I was surprised they searched his computer ... and hers.
Sad thing u=is they think there is not enough evidence to convict, these two monsters may go free!!!
It's awful, no doubt about it. Just the thought of what that poor little boy went through is tough to take.
But I also see no evidence they killed him on purpose.
Stupid ? Yes. Irresponsible ? Yes. Something they'll never live down, that will be with them all their lives ? Absolutely !
But where's the evidence of criminal / evil intent ?
If I thought he'd done it on purpose I'd definitely vote for the death penalty. But "looked it up on the internet" makes him guilty ?
C'mon. Gotta be more than that.
why ?
Why do the Brits do better investigative reporting than our MSM?
I’m not completely sure.
i agree
