This is pretty bizarre - even for the Balkans.
Bosnian Serbs unveiled a statue yesterday honoring Gavrilo Princip, the teenager who pulled the trigger in Sarajevo 100 years ago today killing Archduke Ferdinand - heir to the throne of the Hapsburg Empire - and his wife. The event touched off a series of blunders, misjudgements, and misadventures that culminated in the great powers stumbling into a war that few of them wanted and none could foresee the consequences for.
By the time the dust settled in November, 1918, the Hapsburg and Ottoman Empires had disintegrated, Russia had gone Communist, and Germany, Great Britain, and France had been bled white. Nearly 40 million died, both soldiers and non-combatants. Ands yet, the man who is largely responsible for starting the conflict is honored as a hero?
You have to be pretty obtuse to ignore the massive bloodletting and celebrate the national impulses that drove Princip and his Clown Car Posse of hapless conspirators to carry out their shocking murders.
Marking the eve of the centennial of the beginning of World War I, Bosnian Serbs on Friday unveiled a monument in Sarajevo to the man who ignited the war by assassinating the Austro-Hungarian crown prince on June 28, 1914.
At the other end of the city, the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra was rehearsing for Saturdays grand EU-sponsored performance, planned as a symbolic start of a new century of peace at the place where decades of war in Europe started 100 years ago.

Sounds like Expulsion to me.
So you were in the highlands...I was in RSSZ...
They left of their own accord....
But, be that as it may, Americans at large were NOT expeklled from Great Britain...Great Britain was expelled from the USA....Period.
“...So please spare me the rah-rah stuff....”
Having had a Doughboy grandfather who crunched mud in the Argonne, and a father who did it all over again twenty five years later, in the Ardenne AND the airborne assault into Germany, plus Marine uncles in the Pacific... Dad also did occupation duty in Germany for two years. As in “Occupied after they surrendered”.
They’d definitely disagree with you.
“...We are not even alert enough to stop large busses of illegal immigrants from calmly driving across the boarder full of whole families of illegal aliens. We dont even have any effective military presence, and not even effective border agents....”
Everything you posted in that particular paragraph has absolutely NOTHING to do with “WE” - and has everything to do with Obama and his cabal of socialist/communist democrats.
Ours is truly a Dark Age, at least so far as Europe is concerned.
That is deep in jungle. Beautiful country all the way up to the Chinese border. And nearly two thousand miles of some of the most beautiful beachfront in the world.
Have you ever thought of going back? Daughter and I did back in 2000. (Wife doesn’t want to fly.)
We did Saigon, which I had never seen before. Then we flew to Danang, and day-tripped for 8 days to many of the places I remembered...some good, some bad, from the first time wround. Stayed at a real swanky place for about $130/night. Always wanted to get back for that twilight swim in their swell pool.
The restaurants were a knock-out too.
From there we flew up to Hanoi and stayed in a French colonial hotel for two days before heading home.
The people in the North are much less gregarious than those in the South. So in that sense, they’re still two different countries. And the Southerners still love Americans and will try to practice their English on you constantly.
‘Bet you’d like it.
Did you notice the Hilton hotel chain now has a property in Hanoi?
They just don’t call it the Hanoi Hilton.
how big were the catfish there?
I just followed the comments up and the idea arguing whether or not we ‘won’ those wars reminds me of arguments I used to have as a kid, and don't miss. Arguing over the meaning of word 'win' and 'we'.
I do recall that Germany and Japan surrendered unconditionally to the allies, that seems like a clear win to the allies.
Dude was obviously just picking a fight.
I get more of a laugh out of the
‘I pay cash for EVERYTHING so Obama cant use my purchases to put me on the death panels list"(Sarah must have said so) freepers than trying to debate which side won WWII.
Chase is offering 5% back for all gas purchases from July through Sept. Does that mean that Obama will put me on his death panels list for global warming ?
Some people can never have enough tin foil.
I guess they pay full price for every too because I assume even those little grocery store key chains cards are a no no.
I am sure that those grocery chains use my purchases against me,
I like to shop from store to store to get the best buys, and with those cards they can figure out that a few customers buy lots of sales items.
But I dont put on a tin foil hat over it. .
You’re a cherry picker; welcome to the club.
Just reinforces my theory on the IQ of ‘x’ on here...
Vinegar and water solutions are abound.
“...just picking a fight....”
Been a lot of that lately. One wonders... full moon?
Examples of lack of civility and intelligence.
There are so many that are “on our side” that you have to conclude “our side” is very, very small.
