US Middle East peace envoy Martin Indyk has resigned following the collapse of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
A US official who spoke on condition of anonymity did not provide a reason for Indyk's departure, which had been widely expected after the two sides failed to meet their goal of reaching a comprehensive peace agreement this spring.
Indyk will return to the Washington-based Brookings Institution think tank, the official said.
US Secretary of State John Kerry confirmed on Friday that Indyk was leaving his post as top US envoy to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
Kerry praised Indyk and thanked him for his services.
Ambassador Indyk has invested decades of his extraordinary career to the mission of helping Israelis and Palestinians achieve a lasting peace. It's the cause of Martin's career, and I'm grateful for the wisdom and insight he's brought to our collective efforts," Secretary Kerry noted.
"Martin's simply invaluable, a terrific partner and friend, and he played a vital role in the progress that was made in the negotiations. He'll continue to work for peace, and as we've all said many times, the United States remains committed not just to the cause of peace, but to resuming the process when the parties find a path back to serious negotiations. I am very grateful to Martin for his indefatigable efforts and creativity, and I look forward to continue working closely with him."

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
They could hire me for that vacancy, but once they heard my ‘idea’ of how to free Israel, I’d be fired.
*SMIRK*
Heck, I was hoping it was Kerry....
A comprehensive settlement by spring? I’ve had some impossible goals and objectives imposed on me in my career, but they pale next to something as absurd as that. I’d never have accepted the job. Let’s review, the conflict, depending on where you decide to declare “start,” has been going on for generations. These people don’t know what peace would look like. The “Palestinians” will not accept less than the death of all Israelis. Did they expect the Israelis to roll over and plant the seeds that would destroy themselves? Wow.
“Ambassador Indyk has invested decades of his extraordinary career to the mission of helping Israelis and Palestinians achieve a lasting peace.”
That has paid off as well as all the years that I invested in houses and lots. Whore houses and lots of whiskey.
Good riddance and don't let the swinging door bang you in a$$ on your way back to Brookings.
I think most presidents make moves to show they are engaged in a peace process. Only this ass-hat clown telegraphed he could do it right away.
It’s a pretty good object lesson on this guy’s self-image, one that to him says he can do anything, while everyone one else realizes he can’t do anything.
Is there one whiff of evidence that Palestinians want a lasting peace?
How 'bout a "smidgen?"
That made me really LOL
The hamas-lovin’ freak should have resigned the day he accepted the position. What a misguided fool.
One down, three to go.
