Democrats were crossing their fingers that Chris McDaniel would be the Republican nominee in Mississippi.
But since Sen. Thad Cochran has prevailed, they are trying to do the unthinkable unseat a six-term GOP senator.
McDaniel supporters are irate that Cochran won a GOP primary by reaching across the aisle. Now some of his backers are ambivalent about whether theyll come out at all in November and if they dont, that could create a rare opening for a Democrat here.

We have two candidates both vying for the Democrat base.
What the difference between an Obamocrat and a Republocrat?
The Democrats didn’t create this mess. This was the GOPe saying to the Conservatives “If you break up with me, I’ll kill myself.”
‘But since Sen. Thad Cochran has prevailed, they are trying to do the unthinkable unseat a six-term GOP senator’
Who can’t even remember what he did or said the day before, & who didn’t even know Cantor had lost his race.
Give me a break.
” Now some of his backers are ambivalent about whether theyll come out at all in November”
ALL his supporters need to come out and vote for the Democrat. If establishment GOP continues to act like the Tea Party is their enemy instead of fighting the Democrats, they need to be stopped.
I’m voting Travis! The GOPE better get busy getting number 51 somewhere else.
Hurt feelings? That’s really how tou see this? The answer is no, I won’t vote for Cochran. Let him get his votes from his new rat constituents.
Let Cochran burn - along with anyone who supports what he did.
They disgust me.
Why is that the "big question" and not "How do we put a stop to this extortion racket?"
Why shouldn’t they stay home? They didn’t get to select a candidate.
And that patronising attitude isn’t helping his case, if anything could (it can’t. Wholesale betrayal of fundamental conservatives to win an election against a conservative is unforgivable).
Yes, the big question is whether conservatives/ tea-partyers will stay home in November, proudly cutting off their noses to spite their faces and the country, by letting the Dems continue to control the Senate — or put the country ahead of their hurt feelings and help the GOP capture the Senate.
I’ve been very vocal about the need to support the Republicans and to come together and support more liberal Republicans.
This one with Cochran crosses the line, however.
Not that it really matters - at this point Cochran has become damaged goods and Cochran going to lose in the general no matter what.
Childers is going to hound Cochran up and down for debates and a public campaign until Cochran has no choice but to accept is exposed as the addled old man he is.
Childers wins in Alabama
More than hurt feelings. If someone stabs you in the back, you don’t kiss and make up. The GOPe is as evil as the Dems. Tea Party is supposed to play fair, but GOPe doesn’t have too? Homey don’t play that game no more.
“reaching across the aisle”
What a joke
It is not hurt feelings, at least from this writer. It is the fact that I left the Democratic Party decades ago, when, among other things, I realized that it was more concerned with scamming black people with government handouts than it was with truly assimilating black people into the general American society and providing the opportunities for American-style success. When the establishment Republican Party uses sleazy Democrat methods to obtain the success of its hand-picked candidate, to remain with the establishment Republican Party would be the same as remaining with the Democrats.
Exactly. It’s an deliberate insult to characterise this as mere petulance, after he betrayed the conservative movement using dirty gutter tactics against a conservative, pandering to the left, to win at any cost. Fine, it’s going to bite him in the azz. And they can’t come back with “it’ll bite you too”, because they already bit and betrayed conservatives. We know they’ll do it, no ifs ands or buts now.
Childers is pro gun, pro life, pro small business. Not a bad Dem to have to support. Of course if he wins, he’ll vote 95% with Reid - like the rest of the “conservative/independent” Dem frauds from red states.
Conservatives and tea party’ers tainting Cochran’s ballot with their “racist” votes? I highly doubt he’d want that.
