As it turns out, a number of SWAT teams in the Bay State are operated by what are called law enforcement councils, or LECs. These LECs are funded by several police agencies in a given geographic area and overseen by an executive board, which is usually made up of police chiefs from member police departments -------------- Some of these LECs have also apparently incorporated as 501(c)(3) organizations. And its here that we run into problems. According to the ACLU, the LECs are claiming that the 501(c)(3) status means that theyre private corporations, not government agencies.

Goose sauce is gander sauce....
Now could we have a SWAT corporation SWATted?
Okay, if they’re private corporations, not government agencies, then they have no authority to enforce the law, and when they conduct a raid, they are armed burglars and should be treated as such.
If the money comes from taxpayers they are not private.
They can be sued either way.
Many public officials in state and local governments have been failing at public affairs for a long time, and they don’t care.
"Do I still live in the USA ?"
Maine is going to be a great place to be after the secession vote on June 12, 2018.
Bookmark. This can’t be right....can it?
Why am I surprised???
I had to kill (insert citizen’s name here) because he made a mistake. Now it’s time to erase that mistake.
They can be anything King Zero allows them to be, peasant!/sarc
Oh? A private corporation? (He chuckles darkly)
Then of course those flash bang grenades have been properly registered as destructive devices and the $200 tax stamp per device paid? No? How bout those automatic weapons?
Oooh. Awkward.
Police dept. funded and sponsored mercenaries. So, if SWAT teams are considered private corporate entities, then they have no protections under law. That makes them a big fat target for other mercenaries like those hired by drug cartels and the like. Who will stop the SWAT from getting SWATted themselves?
They look so dapper in their lil black outfits.
Pretty tough till they have folks returnin the favor on’em.
Fine. The. They aren’t acting under official authority at all and as such they can be treated as any other armed home invader.
Shoot them dead.
This makes me cry. Along with the other swat story about the women forced to strip during a household raid. For no good reason except to terrorize. I have lost my country and have no place to go.
" LECs are claiming that the 501(c)(3) status means that theyre private corporations, not government agencies."
Then they have no authority to act as law enforcement.
Even if they claim to be agencies of the state, they still have no authority to interact with non-state people (you and I) because we are not employed by the state, and if they claim that they can, where is my paycheck?
Read the law.
While acts of a de facto incumbent of an office lawfully created by law and existing are often held to be binding from reasons of public policy, the acts of a person assuming to fill and perform the duties of an office which does not exist de jure can have no validity whatever in law.
An unconstitutional act is not a law; it confers no rights; it imposes no duties; it affords no protection; it creates no office; it is in legal contemplation as inoperative as though it had never been passed.
“..its better to shield their incompetence behind some bogus corporate structure.”
Just like land developers shield themselves by calling each development a different corporation, these SWAT teams could set one up for each raid, with the new guy on the team signing the certificate for the 6478 Main Street Raid, LLC.
