Did you know, for example, that the VA keeps a database on “disgruntled” and “disruptive” vets that results in arbitrarily restricted care?

I immediately submitted a Freedom of Information Request to the Department of Veterans Affairs, FOIA Team Lead, (005R1C) VACO, 810 Vermont Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20420, ATTN: Laurie Karnay using a standard letter attached to Email.

I request that you submit a copy of any and or all documents, or documents pertaining to me under the VA policy on Patient Record Flags (PFRs) and pertaining to Disruptive Behavior Committees (DBCs), as well as any communications initiated by employees at the ____________ VA Hospital in North Carolina or in my regional Office in ________________. If possible, I would like to know if and when any and all PFRs were requested and if or when approved by DBCs and the nature of the approval, e.g., the verbiage entered into my records (Examples: frustration about PCP, frequent or unwarranted visits, telephone calls or communications, going to the media or outside organizations for assistance, etc.). I also want to know if my health care has been restricted or diminished as a result of employee actions under these or other policies due to Flags in my records. I am not concerned with Flags pertaining to actual medical necessity, but only those records described above.

In the paragraph where it addresses payment and fees for processing I put the following: I am willing to pay up to $25 for the processing of my request. Please notify me if you estimate the fees to exceed this amount. However, because of the nature of my request involves the fact that I was possibly flagged without due process first, I believe am entitled to a waiver.

I believe the VA has in fact violated the rights of any and all veterans on these list simply because they failed to allow Due Process First.

I've been dealing with the VA for 3 years. I've blandly acted the grey ghost who always smiles and never bitches. It has gotten me more than when I had to keep dealing with the Hotel Of Death that is disguised as my local hospital.

They haven't yet read my thoughts.

Cannot be removed? Amazing when you consider a court just ruled it is unconstitutional to put folks on the No Fly List without explanation or what they can do to get off!

All sources of “healthcare” have been morphing into VA types of places over the years. IMHO it is because the payment does not come directly from the patient, it comes from an “insurance company”. As the government takes more control, care will continue to go downhill and those expressing displeasure will be punished. Maybe you will get fake smiles back if you smile and act compliant, but you also cannot ask a question about anything or the tables will turn on you. Also, I have heard and read that doctors love educated informed patients that ask questions and I say BS. (no doubt there are exceptions, but generally THEY consider themselves as expert and do not want questions or discussion period.)

VA health care has never been the best. My dad a WW2 Vet died of lung cancer they 'failed' to find until it was to late. Chest xrays every 3 months and they just missed it? I don't think so. I think they found it and just let it kill him as he was getting to costly to treat because of age and health. Official cause of death is lung cancer, when actually the pain meds stopped his heart. When they did 'find it' they gave him 6 weeks to live. He made 3 months in horrible pain.

He was a career boilermaker at a large steel mill after the war until he was injured OTJ that disabled him and caused him to have emphazima. No rules about safety back then.

I write to you as a concerned US Citizen, wife of a Retired SCPO who served his Country for 20 years. He is 74 in two months. Which makes Tricare Life his secondary to Medicare.

It is your next DC. Veterans scandal. We were notified that as of 4/14/2014 via DOD MANDATE that all daily medications be either gotten through Military Base Dispensaries whose drugs are limited by size of base and is not wheel chair or handicap friendly and is very dehumanizing, long waits, and refills are for our region out of Pensacola, FL. IF they can fill the original at the base they should be able to refill it from there too. Or through the very CORRUPT Express Scripts. This company has defrauded tax payers and customers out of hundreds of millions of dollars. It is a very cumbersome system to use. There is a money trail there to be sure. I don’t have the resources to find it. I found the fraud easy enough and the customer complaints. We are talking a multi- BILLION dollar contract for the entire Tricare Life Retired Military all branches.

You never know if your order is right, what generic, what manufacture, or what country. And a Dispense as Written Script can be changed to a generic by either of them at their whim. Doctors write DAW scripts for a reason, usually the generic does not work, is a ‘small window drug’ like Synthroid, where the generic is simply not of the same quality, and the fillers have side effects. I singled out the Synthroid as I have been on it nearly 30 years. The generic does NOT function at the same level and has side effects. My Script for it is DAW per my Endocrinologist who knows my health better than some government bureaucrat or politician who are not Endocrinologist.

You medicine is delivered via USPS UN PHOTO ID SIGNED FOR. Just stuffed in your mailbox regardless of weather which medication is sensitive to, or the fact that it makes it a target for curious children, meth makers or drug thieves. We are not talking about small dollar medications either.
My husband’s Welchol is nearly $300 a 30 supply times 3, that is $900 of medicine just stuffed in the mailbox. My Linzess is $890 for a 90 day supply, it will be stuffed in my HOT, HUMID mail box in about 8 days, took 3 weeks to get this script filled as first had to obtain a paper script and mail it in.
