Should be another intersting night! Hopefully we'll build some more momentum!
Republican Clawson wins special election in FL19CD with 67% of the vote!!!
Tancredo in Colorado.
Is that good?
Very good!
It's fragmented.
Tancredo is indeed the most conservative, but he's also something of a loose cannon (advocates bombing Mecca). He's a supporter of the recent full legalization of marijuana.
Beauprez is one of 2 "establishment" candidates, though he has been reliably conservative 90% of the time. He's pretty old and looks it.
Mike Kopp has a compelling personal story, good experience in the legislature, and is a "3-legged" conservative (Defense, fiscal, social). Probably the best public speaker of the four.
Scott Gessler won the most votes at the GOP biennial State Assembly, currently Secretary of State, has fought hard against the Democrats attempt to trivialize ballot integrity (without which we probably would not have recalled the two anti-gun State Senators we replaced this past year.
----
US Senate seat:
Cory Gardner is running without serious opposition for US Senate to oppose Mark Udall in November. Seriously conservative, a 92% ACU rating, he's from Eastern Prairie farm and ranch country, gave up his Congressional seat to reun for US Senate. Good looking, and like Beauprez, he loves his cowboy boots.
They called it for him with only about 50% in.
So who won in CO?
When you are taking 67% with 50% reporting, it is very unlikely, that the opponent will get 90% of the rest of the vote to overtake with 100%.
Polls in CO are still open. Read the thread to find out when polls close.
I know I was just chuckling about how quick it was - not even really a “race” per se.
Watching the McDaniel camp live now. Nobody looks worried.
“Wasnt he a Tea Party guy?”
We have no evidence that Clawson actually is a conservative, and some circumstantial evidence that he isn’t. This is what I wrote right after Clawson’s victory in the primary over a tested and proven conservative Republican state legislator:
“Curt Clawson definitely donated to the ultraliberal Democrat Senator Stabenows 2012 reelection campaign (see below, from OpenSecrets.orgs donor lookup; its definitely the same Curtis Clawson, since he was CEO of Hayes Lemmerz International at the time of such donations).
And even worse in the eyes of the Tea Party purists who eschew anyone who has an actual record in politics, the only $200+ federal political contributions that Clawson has made since the late 1990s apart from his recent donation to the Dangerously Incompetent Stabenow were to ... wait for it ... Mitch McConnell and to the McConnell-controlled Republican Party of Kentucky! If those self-proclaimed Tea Party leaders are to be consistent, they should demand that Clawson drop out of the race and permit the GOP to nominate a candidate who is not a stooge for the GOPe like Clawson obviously must beI mean, what is more establishment than donating to Mitch McConnells reelection campaign? At least Clawson donaled to ultraliberal Democrat Stabenow, so I guess that proves hes no Republican. Whew! Close one for the Tea Party Expressthey almost endorsed a conservative Republican by mistake, but Clawsons Stabenow donation will save its reputation.
Here are Clawsons federal political donations. Read em and weep:
CLAWSON, CURTIS
NORTHVILLE,MI 48167 HAYES LEMMERZ INTERNATIONAL 12/31/13 $4,800 Republican Party of Kentucky (R)
CLAWSON, CURTIS
NORTHVILLE,MI 48167 HAYES LEMMERZ INTERNATIONAL 12/31/13 $2,600 McConnell, Mitch (R)
CLAWSON, CURTIS
NORTHVILLE,MI 48167 HAYES LEMMERZ INTERNATIONAL 12/31/13 $2,600 McConnell, Mitch (R)
CLAWSON, CURTIS J
NORTHVILLE,MI 48167 HAYES LEMMERZ INTERNATIONAL 5/20/09 $1,000 Stabenow, Debbie (D)”
By the way, while CEOs sometimes contribute to both parties for business reasons, Clawson didnt make the types of donations that one would expect a CEO to make; he gave nothing (at least at the federal level) prior to 2009, then gave $1,000 to Stabenow (3 years before her reelectionit was one of her early fundraisers to pad her cash-on-hand and scare off potential Republican challengers), then $10,000 to Mitch McConnell at the end of 2013 (the max donations for the primary and the general, with the remainder going to the state party). This isnt the case of a CEO who gives to both the committee chairman and the ranking minority member of the committees that regulate his companys industry; his donations are more akin to someone without a set political ideology who wanted to do some networking with politically connected folks in the state where his company was located so he went to a Stabenow fundraiser, and then, after he decided that he was a conservative Republican who wanted to move somewhere and run for Congress, he gave $10,000 to arguably the highest-ranking Republican in the nation.
I hope that Clawson is as conservative as he claims, but this guy has been subject to no vetting, and has absolutely no record to prove his conservative bona fides. Huge gamble for Florida Republicans to have chosen Clawson over two candidates with long, proven conservative records.
We know nothing about Clawsons political views prior to 2013 or 2014.
“I just heard that the FL race was won by a Tea Party person.....Sarah Palin endorsed him.”
See my post #70 re: Clawson.
Yes...they called minutes after the polls closed. The FL19CD is in the Bonita Springs area of SW Florida. The district is 47% Republican, 27% Democrat and the rest Independents. Clawson won with 67% of the vote, slaughtering the low life Obama Democrat!!! November, 2014 is not gong to be a happy time for the Democrat Party!!!
I love Tancredo. I donated money to his presidential campaign in 2008. I think he would be a great Governor.
you think Crist even makes it out of the dem primary
Don’t know anything about Kopp or Gessler. Thought Beauprez was dull but even handed, and Tancredo -— crazy -— though a glowing magic meteor would be very artistic.
Thanks for the information
Have no idea!!! But.....Crist is another Wendy Davis....he is going nowhere!!! Florida goes “Red” big time this coming November!!! End of story...no matter what any Democrat or media pundit tells you!!!
I saw him dismantled the Hispanic Obama and that tool Tamar Jacoby at an Intelligence Squared debate a few years ago. He's always impressed me, but I looked at him in a different light after that.
fellow FRers....
just curious.
are you for or against?
(in Republican primaries only)
..........................
single transferable vote, or
instant runoff ...
..........................
with the hope of getting rid
of these STUPID runoffs.
6:49 p.m.
Pastor Isiac Jackson, Jr. of Canton, sported his “I voted’’ sticker on his suit jacket Tuesday afternoon.
Jackson, a registered Democrat, said he voted for Cochran in the primary and again in the runoff.
“Maybe he’s the lesser of two evils,’’ Jackson said of Cochran. “It would be a shame for McDaniel to become senator and turn back the hands of time (in Mississippi). ‘’
Jackson said the state needs progressive thinking. “We really don’t need McDaniel,’’ he said. “We’ve got enough scars, enough bad history.’’
