The Israeli military has carried out airstrikes on a number of military targets inside Syria in response to a cross-border attack that left an Israeli teenager dead, authorities have said. In a statement early on Monday, the military said nine targets were struck and direct hits were confirmed. Yesterdays attack was an unprovoked act of aggression against Israel, and a direct continuation to recent attacks that occurred in the area, said Peter Lerner, a military spokesman, referring to the death of a 15-year-old boy in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights in a mortar attack launched from neighbouring Syria.

Sounds like the Israelis hit them pretty hard, with more to come if the Syrians and the Hezbollah fanatics don't get the message.

It doesn’t make any sense for the government of Syria to attack Israel.

No, it doesn't. Guess the rebels have now figured out they can get Israel to do their dirty work by launching a few mortars into Israel According to the article:
......"But Israel said it held Damascus responsible for any attacks emanating from its territory, and claimed Sundays attack was intentional."...........

Yes, it does. Everyone hates Israel. Pulling them into the war would serve others interest.

airstrikes on a number of military targets inside SyriaThe story obscures who exactly was hit. Was it Assad or was it some Islamists?

do their dirty work
I thought that initially as well, that the rebels could try to trick Israel into retaliating against Syrian government installations. But I suspect we can usually rely on the Israelis to know what they're targeting. I haven't seen any claims of responsibility; that would change matters. I did see one theory that it was Hezbollah, an ally of Assad's.

It remained unclear whether the Syrian military or rebels had carried out the attack.
But Israel said it held Damascus responsible for any attacks emanating from its territory, and claimed Sundays attack was intentional.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
They hit nine targets, are holding Damascus responsible, but it isn’t clear, at least from this story, who they hit. The Israelis can pivot way faster than we can and I’d not be surprised that they hit targets that 1. helped Israel and 2. kept the enemy guessing.
Stability in the ME is best for everyone involved, but if you’re going to have jihadis killing people, let it be jihadi on jihadi death. That’s a win-win for civilization.

He’s already made sure of that.
He’s emptied Iraq of the ability to fight the terrorists back.
ISIS has taken over at least 2 Syria/Iraq border areas and have been moving the armaments (tanks munitions etc etc) to Syria.
Just like the dems put off the first time we went into Iraq to give Saddamm time to send all of his WMD’s and other armaments to Syria back then. Plus semi’s full of millions and millions of $’s of US cash. (Same ‘ol same ‘ol)
Now they are taking (or trying to) take over border areas of Syria and Jordan.

It doesnt make any sense for the government of Syria to attack Israel. It makes perfect sense. They killed one A-rab kid and all it cost them was 9 military installations destroyed and who knows how many killed and wounded. Its genius!
