RAND PAUL CALLS FOR AN 'EXPANDED WORK VISA PROGRAM'
Breitbart ^ | June 23, 2014

Posted on 06/22/2014 11:21:18 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press," Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) warned conservatives when it comes to immigration reform the party needs to “get beyond” the term amnesty and move the focus to border security and work visas. The Kentucky Republican said, "I don't think any immigration reform will get out of Washington. I do think there is a path to a secure border and an expanded work visa program."

“I think that everyone needs to be for some form of immigration reform because the status quo is untenable," he continued. "So I consider myself a bridge to conservative community because I’m about as conservative as they come, a little libertarian too ... If we do nothing, 11 million more people will come illegally, so we have to do something.”

Most of these illegals are not looking for farmwork.

"Most" as in 97% - only 3% are involved in agriculture.

Its easy to spot a liar in this debate - he's the one talking about how badly we need illegals to pick our crops.

WHY can’t any of these guys just come out and say “ENFORCE THE DAMNED LAW?”

Good grief, what a total mush Rand Paul is proving to be. On just about every issue. The statements that spring forth from him, the contexts he uses, all the things that seem reflective of where his worldview lies... This is NOT the kind of person I look to as a leader. Much less someone I’m willing to even marginally trust.

I don’t see anywhere in the article where he’s advocating not enforcing the law. But he’s correct that the other two issues have to be worked on.

Border security and the rule of law is first.

The answer is a total pause, a total ending of all immigration until the system is enforced or rebuilt.

Just damn.
I need to get to work on a Rand Paul circus graphic, just like the one I did for his daddy.

Just follow what is on the books. Nothing else is needed. Just follow the law.

Paul has disqualified himself from any consideration for the Presidency.
An expanded work permit program for foreigners... could make some sense if we had a decent economy with jobs.
Right now in the fifth or sixth year of the Great Obama Depression, there are no jobs for American citizens who want to work (outside of a few specialized areas).
If we were to let more foreign nationals in to work here, NOW IS EXACTLY THE WRONG TIME for this sort of policy.
We need to restore, rebuild the American economy first (which means we have to wait until at least 2017 and then see what we can do to get trust and investment and JOBS going again....)

25% of our work-force unemployed, and this is what Paul comes up with?

What would he offer up if 50% were out of work, citizenship for every human and no future border checks?

Paul is just another damned-fool traitor who’s willing to destroy the country if it means he can get himself some power. He won’t be getting it with my help.

Glad you outlined that. Drives me crazy. This country is crawling with illegals that only pick government paychecks.

I can get behind that, though it won't happen with this administration.

What Rand and others should start focusing on if they want to help AMERICAN citizens is to encourage businesses to embrace apprenticeship programs and also grant regulatory advantages to businesses who hire and develop AMERICAN citizens as a part of their workforce rather than setting up an unfair advantage where people from socialist countries who pay very little for education are brought to America to replace AMERICAN citizens in the workforce.

I don’t blame businesses for wanting to take advantage of the fact that they can skirt onerous costs and regulations imposed by the US government. The fact that work visas represent an end run around regulations and also drive wages down is a travesty and I believe that we should adopt even more strict requirements similar to other countries concerning how and when work visas can be issued and used.
I’m not opposed to work visas or offshoring but I believe that we need to change the regulations to remove the incentives for businesses to take those routes.

I’ve personally seen a huge increase of Offshoring in my tech field and it isn’t even that they are paying for senior people at wages Americans wouldn’t work for if they had the chance. What happens is we pay staffing companies in India, Philippines, etc 65$ a hour to provide resources which are then paid a fraction of that as high as 35$ an hour. Usually this is for kids right out of school sometimes with zero real world experience. Routinely I’m given a team of newbies to break in from offshore.

My beef is that these could be jobs that Americans could be filling with a little effort. Its not like individuals with basic computer and coding skills are hard to find or train. If I’m going to be expected to train resources I’d much rather that effort go towards bettering the life of some urban or rural youth, a citizen, that needs a break.

Its true there are cultural and work ethic problems among many American youth but that isn’t going to change if we simply replace these youth with foreign workers. Instead what will happen is these youth become members of a permanent underclass which hurts us all.
