Paul Blames Iraq Crisis on Bush Administration
The Hill ^ | Sunday, June 22, 2014 | Rebecca Shabad

Posted on 06/22/2014 9:05:48 AM PDT by kristinn

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Sunday said he blames the current crisis in Iraq on those who backed the 2003 U.S. invasion, not President Obama.

Paul was asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” whether former Vice President Dick Cheney is a “credible critic” after he blasted Obama for his strategy for Iraq in an op-ed last week.

“I think the same questions could be asked of the same people who supported the Iraq war,” Paul said. “What’s going on now..I don’t blame President Obama. I blame the Iraq war and I blame the people who supported the Iraq war for emboldening Iran.”

The Bush administration didn’t understand and foresee that a civil war would break out, Paul said.

His army was only "decrepit from sanctions" because the U.S. made it that way.

When (actually, IF) anyone write an honest, objective history book about the U.S. involvement in the Middle East over the last 25 years, they're probably going to acknowledge that the U.S. was on the wrong side in the original Gulf War in 1990.

What evidence is there that Obama really objects to what is going on? There is the distinct possibility that he favors the caliphate what with that ring he wears, returning terrorists to the wild, etc. and the possibility that Benghazi was running arms to the rebels.

We’ve taken out Saddam and his replacement is under attack, Quadiffi, and now they’re after Assad....from what I an tell all three were impediments to the caliphate. Seems to me it’s Egypt, who claims Obama is in cahoots with Muslim Brotherhood, is the one pointing out the inconvenient truth.

I trust freepers will let me know where I’m wrong on this - what goes on over there is hard to keep up with.

His army, already decrepit from sanctions 10 years ago, would have withstood ISIS

His army became ISIS.

Saddam was a radical Muslim himself.

LMAO. Iraq under its ruling Ba'athist government was one of the few places in the Middle East where Christians weren't regularly persecuted.

Heck -- Saddam Hussein even had non-Muslims in the highest reaches of his government. I believe the former Iraqi foreign minister Tariq Aziz was a Maronite or Chaldean Christian.

No, he’s not a lib; look at his domestic ideas. He and his dad are just isolationists. That policy has not worked since 1811.

Bush had the war won. Lybia was peaceful, Iraq and Afganistan were pretty much done deals; just had to maintain. Iran was ready for revolt, we just had to give moral support.

Obama threw it all away. Now we will have to start all over again because the threat is not only back but greater than ever.

Rand, like his father Ron, have an isolationist bend, and anything we do outside the country, should not have been done.

It allowed? The Bush administration didn’t have a final say and could not command they take a different approach. Sure, they could and DID attempt to influence them away from that stance but they couldn’t force it.

All this being said, Saddam's days were numbered regardless of what we did. When practically every family in Iraq knows someone who "disappeared" under Saddam's regime, change would be coming.

I'll bet there isn't a single Islamic country where this hasn't been the norm for at least a thousand years ... and will still be the norm a thousand years from now.

Great post and facts from the past only apply to lieberals when and if it meets their agenda in their current assesments. That’s why they hate absolute truth’s and go with moral relativism because they change the rules and move the goalposts as they see fit and justify doing it with deceptions and obfuscations.
Such a lovely bunch of liars and unaccountable deceivers.

I’m over him.

(We’ve only had an idiot Muslim in the White house for 5.5 years, that’s been funding terrorists.)

Let's be brutally honest. Saddam Hussein harbored, trained and funded radical Muslim terrorists.

Saddam waged war on Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United States.

Saddam waged genocidal wars on the Kurds and Marsh Arabs.

Saddam tried to assassinate a U.S. president.

I could go on but what's the point. Talking to a Saddam supporter is like talking to an Obama supporter.

That is absolute nonsense.

If the U.S. didn't have a "final say" in the adoption of the Iraqi constitution in 2005, then it had no business invading the country in the first place and every senior member of the Bush administration should be charged with war crimes. What kind of lunacy is that?

After World War II, the Japanese didn't even draft their new constitution. It was done in 1946-47 by U.S. military officials with backgrounds in law. That's how you pacify a country and keep a bunch of mutants from staging a military uprising less than a decade later.

I’m trying to come up with a list of Islamic governments in the Middle East that your statements would NOT apply to, and all I’ve got here is a blank sheet of paper.

Shiites, Kurds, Sunni, Muslim Brotherhood, Iran, Egypt, Taliban, Pakistan, Syrian Arameans,Saudis, Isis, Al Queda, Shia, Maronites, Druze, Shabak, Hijab, Palestinians, Hezbollah, etc etc. If we think any of these guys will be lasting partners of the United States that we should arm them, support them, send our young men and women there to die for them..... we're crazy if we believe that.

I don't care if its Rand Paul, Obammy, Sarah Palin, or Diane Fienstein saying we should stay out of this. I agree with them. The only activity we should have over there is killing people we think are about to try and kill our citizens. That's it. And we can do that from a long ways away.

Exactly. I’ve had this ready to post myself. Thanks for posting it.

The Dems would have supported this exact war, with the exact series of events and blips, had Clinton for Obama conducted it. This is why Paul needs to shut up. He is only helping these flip floppers.
