If you mean the constitution post-1913, you couldn't be more correct.
Until it is in the aggregate interest of congress to stand up to tyranny, tyranny will prosper.
The 17th Amendment represents a fundamental contradiction in our republic. We have a federal constitution without a federal government. The government acts on the states, yet the states are not represented in congress. It contradicts the maxim of republics, consent of the governed.
The 17th killed the institutional pride of the senate. Rather than look out for the interests of the states, the senate exists to serve the ambition and avarice of its members. If that means rubber-stamping whatever El-President wants, that's okay. For these men and women, there is no electoral or personal downside to the destruction of our nation.
The 17th facilitated our slide into a nation of men, rather than laws. If restoration of freedom is the goal, there is no substitute for repeal of the 17th.
I agree 100% without the 17th Harry Reid would be back in Vegas screwing up that town.
However the 17th does nothing about the AG being part of the executive branch.
