The Kurdish fighters have had enough of ISIS on their land and are determined to drive them out. From the cover of mud trenches the peshmerga fire at ISIS positions 100 metres or so away. This is the ISIS perimeter defence of Jalula town.
It is old-style fighting. Man replacing man on the barricade as they run out of ammunition. There is a constant barrage from both sides. Sky's Stuart Ramsay reports.
Unlike the Iraqi army, these guys will fight to the death. That’s pretty much what their name translates to.
They have it ENOUGH with ISIS
The Kurds are the only decent people in Iraq. No wonder they want their own country.
They are neither Sunni nor Shia and do not believe in sharia law.
This story goes along with Joel C. Rosenberg’s blog on June 17. Quite prophetic regarding the Kurdes (Medes). They are different from the other Muslims.
The Kurds are also the only pro-American group in this whole shootin’ match.
Turkey will wait for the Kurds to be weakened then they’ll go after them
ISIS this. ISIS that. What do we know about ISIS? Oh yes, what Obama said, what CNN said and what Lindsey said. They are Sunni. They kicked Shia butt in Iraq for a long time and will continue to do so. Portraying them as a special kind of Muslim (very very bad) is merely an attempt to give our latitude. Personally I do not believe one word those listed above (and many others) say. Bottom line - we picked the wrong puppets.
these are the folks that deserve our air support
Sounds like WW I—These Kurds will not give in—They deserve their own nation. We should send em some help.
The Kurds are apparently largely tolerant of their Christian Iraqi countrymen as well.
They may be socialists but they fight well.
“....undermining hard-fought U.S. efforts to bring about a stable, multiethnic Iraq.”
.
The US efforts were hard-fought, alright, but a stable, multiethnic (fill in name of any Muslim country) is an oxymoron.
Also remember that, in biblical times, the Persians and Medes were allies.
The following from Joel C Bloomberg’s post is what I was referring to regarding end times. It is definitely a situation to watch.
“Bible prophecy indicates that in the End Times, as we get closer to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, God will allow the Medes to gain power, even as the Lord allows the Arabs to gain power and rebuild the kingdom of Babylon in the heart of Iraq.
The Book of Revelation, for example, tells us that Babylon will be the epicenter of evil in the last days of history, and will eventually face the judgment of God. The Hebrew prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah and Daniel tell us this, as well, indicating Babylon will be completely destroyed and when the judgment is complete, Babylon will be completely uninhabitable. Indeed, Isaiah 13:20 says of Babylon, It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation; nor will the Arab pitch his tent there, nor will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.
Whats more, Bible prophecy indicates that God will raise up the Medes that is, the Kurdish people to be an instrument of judgment against Babylon.
Isaiah 13:17 Behold, I am going to stir up the Medes against them [the Babylonians]
.
Jeremiah 51:11 The Lord has aroused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because His purpose is against Babylon to destroy it; for it is the vengeance of the Lord
.
Jeremiah 51:28-29 Consecrate the nations against her, the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their prefects, and every land of their dominion. So the land quakes and writhes, for the purposes of the Lord against Babylon stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitants
.
How exactly will these eschatological prophecies come to pass? Its too early to say for certain.”
..the Kurds are the Montagnards of Iraq—they deserve a better fate...
Yes, and they are both Iranic people - linguistically & culturally, the Kurds & Persians share a great deal. A simple example is the name ‘Peshmerga’. That’s the Kurdish pronunciation. In Persian, one would say ‘Peesh-marga’, meaning those who confront or are close to death.
But they’re still Muslim... that’s strike one.
