Women are still pulling more weight around the house than men, according to the American Time Use Survey data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics Wednesday. However, men are starting to pick up the slack.
The BLS data reveal how much time Americans spent on various activities last year, from household work to leisure and sports as well as time spent providing childcare.
Here are some interesting highlights from last years data:
1. On an average day, 83 percent of women and 65 percent of men spent some time doing household activities such as housework, cooking, lawn care, or financial and other household management.
2. On the days they did household activities, women spent an average of 2.6 hours on such activities, while men spent 2.1 hours.

I do all the cooking, dishes, cleaning, laundry, ironing. I just mowed the yard in the Gulf coast heat and humidity. A month or two ago I painted the exterior of this house. I changed out all the door knobs and drawer pulls and knobs, and hinges in the house. I changed out the exterior lights, three of them. I helped repair and replace the master bedroom ceiling fan light. I planted huge flower beds which are dying off in the heat, so am I, and I just replanted them this week. I wash the windows. I am getting ready to clean out the garage and it is a huge one 30 x 30 ft. Normally my husband mows but I did it today. He works long hours at his job and has to commute an hour each way. So I don’t mind doing all the work around here.
Hook the clasp before washing and use a mesh laundry bag. Also, don’t put in the dryer, hang dry.
You know, I think they already sell that kind at Victoria Secret....or maybe it's Spencer's Gifts.
I hate them! They are very uncomfortable
doesn’t work ... have tried that ... besides I’m a bra killer .... These evil bras are full of 40 caliber in the backyard ... Better Half is not going to be happy but it felt good ... No more tangled bras!
bring yours to the backyard ... I have more ammo!
I have ammo and I have my very own gun, too! A true Texas woman!

You can shoot bras with me anytime.
Good for you, but I think you shucked, not de-tasseled.

1. Many women, especially the type that answer surveys, like to think that they do more than they actually do, and that their husbands do less.
2. As a general rule, women want a lot more done domestically than men do. Meaning that heterosexual men just don't care as much about clean sheets, swept floors, and dusted blinds as women do. De facto, women do a lot more of the chores that they consider to be important than men do of the chores that they do not feel are important.
3. No survey to determine if women are being victimized by men is ever going to return anything from the surveyors that doesn't substantiate the notion that they used to justify doing the survey.
See? Ya learn something new every day! Thanks.
Not in my household. I do the laundry for my wife & I. I get my daughters to wash/dry their laundry, at which they pile it up in my bedroom until I get fed up and beg my wife to help them fold it and put it away.
My dad moved in 3 years ago.
Either he cooks dinner, or I do. Every once in a while, like maybe Thanksgiving, she cooks.
My dad and I do the dishes.
If/when it comes to vacuuming/dusting/etc., it’s me, and if I am lucky, I get to force my daughters to help.
Sorry - while it may be true in many households - mine is certainly the exception.
Before children got “soft”, it was common practice on a hot summer day in Indiana to send them out to de-tassel.
Nowadays it’s largely done by Mexicans.
yes, they do ... makes me look like a better shot than am when I throw those out in the backyard .... Please, keep that quiet though ...
Great, when they're done with their own housework, they can come on over and do some of mine.
you remind me of me ... but I cook at Thanksgiving and Christmas ... I need to talk to you in private and learn how you get her to cook at Thanksgiving.
I rent me out at $40/hour ... interested?
Not at our house. Mr. GG2 looks pretty hot doing dishes with a .40cal on his hip. :-)
