Long story but, during Gulf War 1 operation Desert Storm, the US bombed the crap out of Saddam;s WMD facilities. Follow on studies determined that it created a environmental catastrophe and actually killed a lot of people living near those facilities. There was a CIA report available on the web about it. Linked to it on Freerepublic many many years ago. So you cannot just blow the facilities up without consequences.

I had a lot of friends and military buddies who went there and found massive amounts of chemical weapons and conventional weapons, mortar and artillery rounds, lots of explosives, etc.
They had to take the stuff into the desert and burn or explode the stuff with C4 or burn it with JP4 or other fuel. That was NEVER reported by the SRM or the dims.
A WMD can be contaminated?
