Discussing a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll that shows President Barack Obama hitting his lowest foreign policy number in the history of the poll, NBC News White House correspondent Chuck Todd said on Morning Joe Wednesday morning that the poll reflected the public making a damning verdict about Obamas presidency.
This poll is a disaster for the president, Todd said. You look at the presidency here: lowest job rating, tied for the lowest; lowest on foreign policy. His administration is seen as less competent than the Bush administration, post-Katrina.
Then on the issue of do you believe you can still lead, and a majority believe not, Todd continued. Essentially the public is saying, Your presidency is over by saying a number like that. 54% saying he no longer has the ability to lead and solve problems. Thats one of those things, youre sitting at the White House going, Wow.

NBC/WSJ poll finds 54% have no confidence in Obamas leadership

The sixth-year blues have caught up to Barack Obama with a vengeance. In an NBC/WSJ poll taken before the meltdown in Iraq, Obama gets his lowest marks ever on foreign policy, where his claim to smart power has evidently reached its expiration date. But the real danger to Obama and to Democrats vying for office in less than five months is the vote of no confidence in Obamas leadership:
The percentage of Americans approving of President Barack Obamas handling of foreign policy issues has dropped to the lowest level of his presidency as he faces multiple overseas challenges, including in Iraq, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.
Additionally, the public is evenly split on whether Obama is a competent manager of the federal bureaucracy. And a majority of respondents 54 percent believe the term-limited president is no longer able to lead the country.
Just 37 percent approve of his handling of foreign policy, which is an all-time low in the survey, while 57 percent disapprove, an all-time high.
Whats more, by a 44 percent-to-30 percent margin, Americans disagree with the Obama administrations decision to secure the release of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for five imprisoned Taliban fighters.
Obamas job approval comes in at 41/53, the second-worst in the NBC/WSJ series (March 2014′s 41/54 is the nadir). The 37/57 on foreign policy is a record low for Obama, and the economy is nearly at a historical low at 41/54. But its the leadership issues that will make headlines today. In terms of competency, Obama now ranks below Bush at the analogous point in time of his predecessors presidency. Post-Katrina Bush had a 53/46 rating for competency, while its an even split at 50/50 for Obama. Thirty-one percent say Obama isnt competent at all, compared to 24% for Bush in the same time frame, and thats a ten-point increase for Obama from last June.
That last metric isnt an anomaly. Only 15% believe that Obamas performance has improved over the past year, while 41% think it has gotten worse. The top areas in which those respondents believe Obama has gotten worse are ObamaCare, foreign policy and the Taliban 5 swap for Bowe Bergdahl, with the economy and Obamas dishonesty rounding out the top five. Small wonder, then, that only 42% of respondents think Obama can still lead this nation, while 54% reject Obamas leadership.
As Chuck Todd tells Morning Joe, This is the public saying your presidency is over:
Id disagree with Chuck on what this means for Democrats, though. While its true that the Congressional polling isnt a disaster for Democrats, voters will be looking for ways to fill the leadership vacuum and deal with the perceived incompetence and dishonesty at the White House and they wont be choosing Democrats for that mission.
Wait a minute ... are you saying that spending too much time golfing, partying, and vacationing are NOT effective ways to run a country??
We only wish it was over
I totally agree. The worst is yet to come folks.
Interesting comparison of two Dictators when losing became inevitable:
* Hitlers Fast tracking of Death Camps and
* Obamas Fast flooding of Illegal Alien Invaders from Mexico.
IMHO: both Dictators saw their fast actions efforts as THE FINAL SOLUTION.
Which is why Obama needs to be removed from office thru impeachment proceedings before our country is forever weakened.
You ain't seen nothing yet.
The Obama regime will spend their final two years in scorched earth mode, aided by a feckless GOP, a stacked judiciary, and a dumbed down citizenry.
Exactly right. That’s why he’s carefree and playing golf. Just another half day at the office for him whlle the world catches fire. Yep, everything is going perfectly to plan.
And a willing adoring media.
He does not care. He’s here to destroy.
Just imagine what the polls would look like if the media actually fairly reported what is going on?
RAMMING SPEED! (fore!)
As much as I'd like to believe that, it's far, far from reality.
They still own the media, Hollywood, universities, the public school system, and they dominate the culture. They won't find it hard to regroup.
That's another thing. The MSM never failed to make the connection for us when gas prices rose under GWB. They always showed us examples of poor farmers, airline industry and travelers, and increased food costs as a result of higher gas prices. The economy was always in imminent collapse mode during the Presidency of GWB.
Under Obama though, rising gas prices are just an isolated fancy, not related to anything, only an inconvenience brought on by market "speculators" and greedy oil men.
Absolutely. Mark Steyn substituting for Rush one day said that he disagreed with Rush that we are a "center/right" country. He said that liberalism is in the air we breathe.
The big Snowden revelations havent come yet. Just wait until we find who they have been spying on and what they have been using it for.
It was failed from the start, just took 5 years for the public to realize it.
Mark Steyn is great.
Here in Broward county I’m sludging through liberalism, need boots. Nice area though.
